The combination of elevation and proximity to the harbour offer an unusual and pronounced slowly evolving view through the picture windows at Water Light. Look up from your book and the once green water is beige or silver or blue. Cloud cover, arc of the sun, ebb and flow of the tide. A calming, rhythmic slow-motion captivating scene.
Mangonui is one of New Zealand's earliest European settlements. Many of the buildings from that era remain. There’s a Heritage Walking Trail mud-map available at the Information Centre and descriptive plaques on each building. Two of them are across the road. It’s one of the few remaining minor ports that operates on a commercial basis, fishing boats unload their catches onto the wharf.
Water Light has undergone extensive renovations inside and out, completed in 2020. King-size double bed in the surround view master bedroom. Queen-size double in the other. Open plan living, new kitchen and bathroom. Fine harbour views from the shade sail protected deck, carport and extensively landscaped and maintained gardens. Set well back from the quiet one-way road.
Water Light is right on the perimeter of Old Mangonui and an easy 2 minute walk to the restaurants, supermarket, shops and historic pub. An ideal central base from which to explore all the Far North has to offer; Down to the Bay of Islands, up to Cape Reinga or over to the Hokianga Harbour.
Note: There is a tenant living in the 1 bedroom flat beneath Water Light. Each space has a separate entrance. Water Light has a strict 'No Pet' policy.
