Wonderful hotel, well decorated and understated, we loved the quiet atmosphere of the hotel, and its clean, relaxing atmosphere. Rooms were clean and we had everything we needed. The view of the Empire State Building was magnificent.

This is my second time staying at Prince Kitano and I always find it comfortable, clean and the staff is so helpful. It’s a lovely hotel and it is located very conveniently near Grand Central.

Disappointing and misleading stay
I booked this hotel based on the appealing images on Hotels.com, expecting a comfortable, updated room. However, upon check-in, I was told that I had been assigned “the only room that hasn’t been renovated.” - room #501. Worse, I was offered an “upgrade” to a better room for an additional $100+ per night, which felt like an unfair upsell given that I had already paid for a quality stay. The room I ended up with was shockingly small, barely enough space to move around. It was so cramped that we had to store our shopping purchases at a friend’s house nearby because there was no space for luggage. The hotel’s “no option” booking policy through third-party sites meant I had no ability to choose or change rooms unless I paid the steep upgrade fee. For the price I paid, this experience was far below expectations. I would strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to look elsewhere unless you’re prepared to either gamble on room quality or pay significantly more to get what you thought you booked.

I was really enjoying my stay; the room was nice and reasonably quiet (back of building) minus some hallway noise, as I was near a housekeeping supply room. The primary problem came when I left my room, pre-checkout time (ie it was before 11am and the first time I stepped out my room for the day), and a maid in that supply room almost directly across from my room barked at me the second I walked through my front door “are you checking out?” And when I said “no” she shot back at me “when?” What kind of thing was that to do to someone when they leave the confines of their room? I wasn’t even late to checkout. It was pretty unbelievable. Detracted significantly from an otherwise perfectly good stay.

It’s a beautiful hotel.. Love the Japanese toilet seats. Very clean and the staff are friendly. Lots of options for breakfast, from traditional Japanese miso soup to the usual continental breakfast.
