River House - Cabin at Lost River

Summary:
River House is a two bedroom vacation cabin, sleeping up to 6 guests, located on the edge of the Paysaten wilderness. The home features a generous porch at the front and large deck to the rear. The site abuts a seasonal channel of the Methow River and looks out across woodland to the mountains beyond. The location is at Lost River Airport which is a secluded home-owner community, around the Lost River airstrip, 7 miles north-west of Mazama.

The Space:
River House has one queen bedroom, bathroom, galley kitchen and open plan living space on the ground floor. Upstairs is a loft bedroom, with a queen bed, that is open to the living space below.

The kitchen is equipped with an electric cook stove, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, kettle, toaster, and coffee maker. The living space includes a cast iron propane stove, dining table, couch (with hide-a-bed), two easy chairs, and TV: the large windows look out towards the river bank and forest. Wood paneled walls and ceilings throughout the home provide a cozy cabin ambiance.

River house sleeps up to six guests with the following sleeping arrangements: queen bed in downstairs bedroom, queen bed in the loft space (open to living room below), and fold out couch in the living room.

The bathroom has a bath tub with a shower over. Heating is provided by wall heaters and the propane stove. Cooling is provided by an air conditioning unit in the loft space, ceiling fan in the living room, and a pedestal fan in the downstairs bedroom. A stacked washer-dryer unit is located in curtained closet space in the downstairs bedroom. Both the front porch and back deck each have a pair of adirondack chairs, and there is a propane grill available on the back deck.

River House is a true get-away cabin located right on the edge of the Pasayten Wilderness area. Nearby trails include the West Fork Methow Trail, and Robinson Creek Trail. Hart’s Pass with access to more wilderness trails including the PCT is 13 miles drive (around 40 minutes).

The Neighborhood:
The Lost River Airport community is located at the end of the paved road around 7 miles northwest of Mazama. This is a community of full-time residences and vacation homes built around the Lost River Airstrip.

Getting Around:
Getting here:
May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over highway 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). From Mazama it is a 7 mile drive up the Lost River Road.

Getting around:
From Lost River Airport, forest service roads lead further into the wilderness providing access to numerous trailheads. The Mazama Store, Pub and Trailhead are a 10-15 minute drive back down the road, while the closest trailhead for the Methow Trails winter cross country ski trails is at The Bush School, 4 miles / 8 minutes drive from the cabin.

Other Things to Note:
PETS
Well behaved dogs are welcome. We charge a pet fee of $50 per dog per stay. We'll get in touch with you before your stay to confirm the number and type of dogs (if any), and will request the pet fees at that time.

HEATING & COOLING
Heating is provided by wall heaters and the propane stove. Cooling is provided by an air conditioning unit in the loft space, ceiling fan in the living room, and a pedestal fan in the downstairs bedroom.

WIFI
The cabin has both Starlink and Centurylink internet with wifi. The Centurylink network is typically good for zoom calls. Starlink has higher speed and can stream movies without interruption or buffering, or handle two zoom calls at a time.

EXTRA GUESTS AND MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY
FOUR guests are included in the nightly rental rate, additional guests are charged at $25 per person per night. Maximum occupancy is 6.

PRICING
Please note that the nightly rental rate varies with seasons and weekdays, please enter your proposed dates for an accurate quote.

POOL
The Inn Pool - guests of our cabin may use The Inn at Mazama outdoor pool (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day) and tennis/pickleball court located at 15 Country Road in Mazama. The cost to use the pool is $10/guest/day and you should check in at the front desk before heading to the pool. The Inn also has a co-working space and private offices available to rent by the day in case you need space to work during your stay.

WINTER STAYS
Both the cabin and Lost River Community roads are served by a snow plow service. You may need to be patient after snow storms as it can take the plow services some time to cover the whole area. For winter access you should be equipped with chains or other traction devices.

quiet and relaxing
The cabin lived up to its description. Even though there are other cabins nearby, it was quiet and felt private during the middle of the week. For me, it was a good place to just relax and read a book on the back porch, while listening to the river not too far away.

Lovely forest cabin
We had a lovely stay at this forest cabin. We ended up being there during a hot and smoky time, but the house stayed nice and cool, and the HEPA filter I brought along kept the indoor air quality nice and.breathable. The house was comfortable and filled with light, and everything was as expected. A baby gate was provided to block off the upstairs loft if you need to do so for small children or pets. It was a very quiet and relaxing place to stay. My only recommendation would be to bring your own cooking oil as there was none in the pantry. Lots of spices though!
