Wildlife is abundant and includes wild boar, European jackals, brown eagles, wild boar and various owls. The Peloponnese in springtime is renowned for its flowers and at this time of year is carpeted with them. Anemones, various orchids, aliums and an array of spring flowers. It really is a sight to behold.
The hamlet of Kakorema has 2 churches and sits above the village of Chrani. It is surrounded by olive groves and fig trees and has wonderful views across the Messinian Gulf to the Mani and Taygetos Mountains and along the coast to Koroni.
The nearest beach is less than a 10 minute drive away. The nearest village, also less than 10 minutes away by car, is Chrani. It has a mini market with a cafe called Billy's Place, a bakery, gift shop and tavernas.
The market town of Petalidi has a very good market every Friday morning. It sells fresh, local produce from the surrounding farms; fruit, vegetables, fish, cheese, honey, nuts, olives and olive oil.
The Messinian peninsula is a great place to explore. The ancient site of Messene is a hidden archaeological treasure,. Methoni has a castle on the beach with a magical bourtsi. Koroni is a lovely town to wonder around and also has a castle. The famous beach of Voidakalia backed by Gialova Lagoon is wonderful and has the most amazing sunsets. The town of Pylos is a lovely town too and boats can be hired here to explore the little islands off shore that have war memorials on them as well as hidden coves where you can find beaches just for you. There are a series of waterfalls with pools for swimming which are great to spend time at on really hot days
Further afield there is the ancient site of Olympia where the Olympics originated from, Mystras a brilliantly restored Byzantine town,
The Taygetos Mountains with spectacular gorges and the Mani Peninsula.
The Peloponnese are very Greek with a variety of scenery and landscapes and plenty to see and do.
