Location is amazing. The hotel is clean and has decent amenities - however I was told that pool access at the Andaz is no longer provided. The staff is enthusiastic and well-meaning, however the execution was sometimes lacking, for example being charged by the hotel for a spa treatment that I paid for directly (which they did remove from the bill) or following up with the concierge multiple times to get responses.

The hotel is quite nice, with a good coffee shop in the lobby and an outdoor terrace bar for evening cocktails. We only had breakfast in the sky lounge once and it was terrible. There are plenty of far better options in the neighborhood. My main problem with the hotel was the fact that I submitted several requests for a rollaway bed for our double room, and received confirmation both through email and on a telephone call that we would be granted this extra bed as long as there was one available. When we arrived at the hotel and checked in we were told that the room was too small for a rollaway bed and it would be impossible to have one. Surely if this is the case, then the people from the hotel who emailed me and spoke to me on the phone prior to arrival could also have explained this fact to me? There is a serious flaw in their communication. We dealt with sharing beds in the small double room we were given, but it would have been nicer to have the additional bed I was promised would be an option. I also witnessed a family with a baby checking in and being told that there would be no room for a crib in their room, despite having that request confirmed prior to arrival. So, this is a repeated issue for this hotel. Not sure if they are intentionally misleading guests or it's just poorly run management with no communication. Otherwise, the stay was fine.

Housekeeping is way overwhelmed. One lady for so many rooms. I understand regulations are different in Mexico but for the amount paid per night, they should consider staffing housekeeping better. Sheets were clean but don’t expect much more than that. The food… well, the service was subpar. The food was subpar. The service by the male workers was fine, but the female hostess was no where near genuinely caring or considerate. The food was bland, over cooked and there was no variety. Truly had higher expectations. This was such a drag to wait for food and all you saw was the female hostess running a round like a chicken without its head. There was lack of transparency in regards to what was available and included until much later. The front desk was a 10/10. Concierge was meh .. had asked for information on a tour didn’t get any information until literally 12 plus hours after. And the email was a template! Anyhow, check out the hotel on same property- Andaz they seemed to have much better service and their food was great! Decided to pay extra given the lack of effort and taste. Good luck!

TLDR: I would not classify Mondrian as a five star hotel. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel, look elsewhere. We were excited to stay at Mondrian. However, the property fell far short of our expectations. Below is a summary of why Mondrian does not live up to five star standards: 1. Noise issues: Before our stay, we read some reviews of the property that stated noise is a challenge in the guest rooms. To prepare for this, we brought ear plugs with us on our trip. Unfortunately, we could hear music, guests other rooms, and doors slamming through our earplugs. Our balcony door had visible gaps, and our room was above the lobby/courtyard. Sleep was a challenge due to the noise. 2. General quality: The bed linens, the towels, and the room in general simply are not at a five star level. The towels are coarse, the bed sheets feel cheap, the finishes in the room were wearing, and the room/furnishings were simply not practical (e.g., tiny drawers not usable for clothes). 3. Amenities: the gym and the spa are not at par with other five star properties. The gym is at the neighboring Andaz hotel, and it is quite small, crowded, and much of the equipment does not work well. 4. Breakfast: The included breakfast was disappointing to say the least. If Mondrian didn’t bill itself as a five star hotel, I’d say it’s fine. But the quality of food and poor service is not what I would expect from a luxury hotel. We did not know where to stay in the Condesa neighborhood of CDMX on short notice, but am very glad we happened upon this hotel. We traveled over the holidays and were happy to have a landing place that offered snacks and drinks and a meeting place. The room was great - very large, comfortable bed and great shower. When we visit CDMX again, we will choose this hotel for another stay.
