Charming 18th Century Barn Conversion - Exmoor - Close to Dunster

A stunning conversion of our historic courtyard barn. Featuring vaulted ceilings and built from Exmoor stone, it has plenty of character, whilst still having all the amenities required for your week away.

Tucked away in the centre of the village of Timberscombe (just 3 miles from Dunster), The Barn is an ideal location from which to explore Exmoor National Park.

The open plan sitting and dining room is the central point, with the king sized bedroom and kitchen either side. The kitchen has a delightful cottage feel while containing all the modern conveniences one would expect to make you feel at home. The bathroom comes complete with a power shower.

The courtyard has shared access with our house so you may bump into us and our friendly labrador coming in and out.

Timberscombe is a traditional farming village in the Exmoor National Park and is in prime position for exploring the surrounding area. In the village itself we have a fantastic pub, The Lion Inn, which is highly recommended for a meal and a drink. Conveniently it’s just a few doors down, so within easy stumbling distance! There’s also a local shop and Post Office should you need to top up on essential supplies.

We’re a three mile (six minute) drive to the historic medieval village of Dunster. Alternatively you can walk there via Nutcombe Bottom forest, which contains the tallest tree in England! We are also ideally placed to enjoy Snowdrop Valley, which is a spectacle not to be missed if you’re visiting in the winter.

Minehead is six miles (10 minutes) down the road, and contains all of the amenities you could require for a week away. There are three supermarkets (Tesco, Morrisons, and Lidl) all within a stones throw of each other.

Exmoor is a walking and cycling (road or mountain) heaven. We’ve created a list of our favourite routes, which you can find in your Guest Handbook when you arrive. These are a combination of spectacular routes leaving from the front door, and those further afield which you’ll need to travel to.

Horse riding and fishing are two of the other major hobbies, with plenty of locations to give these a go. Golfers can find Somerset’s oldest golf course down at Minehead, which is a links course based on the coast.

For the more adventurous, Wimbleball Lake and Porlock Weir are both a 20 minute drive away, and allow for swimming, kayaking, and other water sports.

For those looking for beaches, Minehead is big and sandy and great for a family day out. Porlock and Bossington are quieter, but are pebbly. A bit further afield are the magnificent Woolacombe and Croyde beaches which are famous for surfing.

Delightful, charming, clean and beautiful.
We had a fabulous week with our dog. There was an enclosed area for car and dog. We arrived to a delicious home made cake & loaf of bread with orange juice, milk and butter all in fridge waiting for us! So kind. The kitchen was well kitted out with all you need for a week. Sitting room has comfortable chairs, sofa etc and big tv for watching the Olympics!! Bed was very comfortable and plenty of drawers and hanging space for clothes. Our only thoughts for improvement would be to replace the FULL size dishwasher (which for two people is unnecessary) for a washing machine or washer /dryer, better still. Otherwise perfect. Great pub 100 yards away with good food & dog friendly. Dunster a few miles away is a lovely Medieval town with Reeves restaurant which is Superb, best ever Crème Brûlée and dog came in too! All the pubs and restaurants accept dogs which is brilliant. Dunster and Blue Anchor beach very near are dog friendly all year round. Lovely walks very near by, at Nutcombe Bottom. Very lovely week. Thank you Jess and Matt.

Ideally located cottage for touring Somerset.
Property in centre of village close to local pub, well situated for touring Somerset. Cottage was clean and owners were very respectful of COVID rules. They had left some little treats to start the holiday; bread, milk, and delicious homemade cake and jam.

Best Time Ever
What can we say about this Beautiful converted Barn. It is in a beautiful village with a pub, church and little post office. The Barn itself was stunning, fantastically clean and roomy. Everything you needed was there. Jess and Matt who owned the property were great, although they were right next door they never intruded on us. In fact it was nice when we saw them as we could have little chats. They said to contact them if there was any problems but we never had any. We were welcomed with a home made cake, we also had milk, cream and orange juice. The linen and towels were spotless, just can't fault it. The surrounding area is full of wonderful places to go. Dunster Beach is a must, very dog friendly and clean. Local Lakes and Rivers ideal for dog swimmers, my lab loved the water. The local pub is 50 yards away and highly recommend the Sunday dinner. The Landlord and staff are all very welcoming and friendly. Loads to see and do within a good distance. Can't praise it enough. Lovely time, can't wait to come again. Thank you Jess and Matt, a total credit to you both.

5* weekend break away
On arrival at the cottage we were welcomed by Matt and Jess and made to feel so welcome. The cottage was lovely, clean and very homely. The breakfast items were such a lovely touch, and the home made carrot cake was the best we have eaten, ever ! I would not give this weekend experience with our dog anything less than 5 stars. The Lion Inn is just 50 yards away and the food and Gin are both lovely. Thank you for a lovely weekend away , we will definitely see you again.
