Central location for John Day sights; but pricey
This place worked for us fine. It’s definitely a bit on the funky side as an old home that seems to have been added onto a few times. Things were comfortable enough, but it just didn’t have that clean feeling. My biggest issue, however, was the price. When all was said and done, it was over $400 a night. I have never in my life spent that much for a hotel room, not even at the Hilton Waikoloa resort on the Big Island. I might have been ok w the price if the entire place had been nicer. But, for example, the sheets on the bed were old pilled jersey sheets, and I don’t even want to know why I ended up itching so badly those two nights. The thing is, not only are there almost no hotels or rentals in the area, there are also almost no restaurants (Mitchell does have 1 or 2). So I booked it NOT realizing there would be an additional $100 fee for 2 dogs for 2 nights. So there just isn’t much choice. I wouldn’t stay there again, but I also don’t really need to stay in the area again. I hate being negative and have never left a remotely negative review, but I was just gobsmacked by the price, and then was unable to cancel and get a refund. Oh well. It’s whimsical and convenient?
Stayed 2 nights in May 2024
