I booked a “presidential” one bedroom suite for myself. I travel to Moab frequently and usually stay at one of the many basic and cheap hotels in town; i’m there to hike. This was a splurge.
While traveling I got a call that my booked room was not available and I would be getting a standard 2 bedroom but they “wouldn’t charge me extra.” They asked when I would arrive and I said at 5 (check in is at 4) and she told me to stop and get lunch because my downgraded room would not be ready. I asked if I could have a 1 bedroom for on time check-in and was told maybe they could “move some other guests around.” What?
I arrived at 5:30, my 2-bedroom was ready, hooray. It was a disappointment. I had planned for a bathtub and a balcony and just a fancy, fun space for New Years Eve and this was not that. Also there are only blinds in the bedrooms, and blackout curtains in the kitchen. The room was on the ground floor of a very well lit parking lot and the bedrooms are very light at night. I replied to the welcome text saying I was disappointed and suggested blackout curtains, I was told my disappointment was understandable. Of note, occupancy was very low all over town.
I know this is not a big deal in the grand scheme. It was just a disappointment with no explanation. I booked an elevated room and did not get it. Wish I had paid less for basic room in town as usual. TLDR: downgraded room, weird late check in, no explanation or apology, bedrooms need blackout curtains. Breakfast=good.
