Unspoiled by tourism, this section of the Tygart River is truly an undiscovered gem nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains.

The historic community of Arden, West Virginia, is home to the Tygart River Guest House. It is off the beaten path and serves as a convenient hub with direct access to the river – yet only a 6 mile from the nearest town where you can find restaurants, groceries, gas, pharmacy, hospital and more. The Arden Grade Road was once a main route through the mountains on the B&O railway during the early 1900’s and follows along the river providing spectacular views! It’s also a great place for casual bike rides with access to mountain trails nearby.

Take in the stars fireside, listen to the rolling sounds of whitewater, and connect with family and friends in a most welcoming and unlikely place.

HOUSE DESCRIPTION - Newly Renovated!

• Front Porch
• Partially Covered Back Deck
• Sleeps 10
• 4 Bedrooms (7 beds)
• 3 Full Baths
• Fully furnished
• Close to Philippi/ABU, grocery store, fast food, hospitals/clinics, gas and more.

The Tygart River Guest House offers a spacious “old timey” front porch, complete with swing, rocking chair and plenty of easy lounging wicker furniture – great for lazy days on the river. High ceilings will greet you through the front entrance where original bead board walls whisper stories from the distant past and restored yellow pine floors pave the way to a more contemporary present. We have brought together period elements from the coal mining era joining them with contemporary colors and modern amenities. Remnant artifacts salvaged from the house during its recent renovations are on display accompanied by vintage black and white photos of the era.

The ground floor offers two bedrooms. The one directly to your left upon entering, features a classic full size wrought iron bed dressed in quilts with two lamps and nightstands, armoire and river views. The room to your right boasts a sunny disposition arrayed in hues of red and green. Its companions are an ornate metal queen size bed, ceiling fan, closet and comfortable chairs. Continue down the hall into the open Dining Room which is centrally located and acts as a hub for the whole household to gather between the Living Room and Kitchen. For the musically inclined, there is upright piano dating back to the early 1940’s and a large country table with pullout extensions to comfortably seat 10 people. Additional seating can be found at the breakfast bar.

The Kitchen is equipped with microwave, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, gas cook stove, antique country sink and drain board and ceiling fan/light. Glass sliding doors separate the kitchen from a private back deck with patio set and a private backyard view.

You’ll be right at home in the spacious Living Room with sloped ceiling and hardwood floors, leather couch, and loveseat. An oak armoire entertainment center houses a TV and DVD Player. One of the most unique features of this home is the large antique oak pocket doors at your disposal to close off the Living Room if more privacy is needed. There is a convenient full bathroom just off the Living Room with a shower and beautiful slate tile floors. On the opposite side of the house is a Laundry Room with washer and dryer, clean tile floors and laundry table. This room leads to another full bathroom with full size tiled shower.

Upstairs, there is a full bathroom with tile floors and windows on all sides giving it a bright airy feel with an antique claw foot bathtub for soothing relaxation. Exiting the bathroom, there is a bedroom on your left complete with a full size bed, roomy closets, TV and DVD player, full river-facing windows and carpeted floors. There is a gorgeous view of the river from the hallway as well, where you can perch for a look from above. Finally, we arrive at the bunk bed room to the right of the hallway. It also has a view of the river, full carpeting and two sturdy bunk beds to comfortably sleep four people. One bunk bed features staircase access to the upper bunk for easy access.

Piacentino weekend
The house was a little hard to find the first day but we were fine getting around after that. We were welcomed by Sharon, who couldn’t have been more helpful. The house is very nice. It had everything we needed. The views were amazing and we loved just sitting on the front porch watching the river.

A little out of the way, but worth it!
6 of us were on the area for a family reunion in Grafton. We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor space, with the younger of us having fun in the river. The house was really beautiful, and well-appointed. The beds were exceptionally comfortable. There's a lot of living space inside and out. The host lives next door and has 2 large, friendly dogs, who enjoyed visiting us. We hope to come back sometime, and sure hope to stay at this location; it was great!

Beautiful and peaceful
Lovely house, very comfortable (we were eight) with many beautiful details. The front porch and back deck were favorite for hanging out. The area is gorgeous. The river was unfortunately too high for swimming, but the nearby Tygart lake is fantastic. Our multi-generation family had a great time and made lasting memories.

Great vacation spot!
Need to unplug and unwind? This is the place for you. Two families (4 kids) stayed here. Enough space for the kids to do their own thing without bothering parents, when they weren't in the river. We spent most evenings sitting in the river, relaxing, while the kids tired themselves out. The location is close enough to horseback riding, rafting, visit museums.

The owners of this property clearly invested a lot of thought and effort into making this place a highly desirable place to stay. The accommodations, interior and exterior, were perfect. The house has a country charm and is tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well equipped and the furnishings are very comfortable. Highly recommended.

Favorite Spot
My family and I have stayed at this property for the last 7 years or so. Every year the home seems to have been updated in a way that makes every aspect of your stay even more enjoyable, and convienent. This year, the owners have provided portable air-conditioners in the upper bedrooms to help combat the warm air that is hard to combat in this beautiful old (albiet immactulately restored) country-house. Surrounded in total beauty, there's nothing to not love about the area. If you're from or familar with WV, you understand you're going to drive about 20 minutes to reach your nearest grocery/convienece store, but I'd assume that's what you're looking for if you're considering this area to begin with. The owners dogs will greet you as you come and go each day. They join my partner and I on our daily walks, which seems to carry this spiritual vibe, like these pups are guiding and protecting you on your journey. These dogs are also great with other dogs. We have two of our own, and have never had any issues. Thank you for all you do to provide such a lovely spot in an area that does not otherwise provide many options for those looking for the all the creature comforts during their stay.

Awesome vacation home!
We loved this vacation property so much! We had such a great time here. The house is beautiful and clean with a gorgeous river view. There is so much space with the bedrooms to have space and it is also great for time together. We loved the river and our kids swam right there and also down the road a little bit where there is a beach. Town is close with food stores, restaurants, etc. Owners are such a great family who are right next door and so very helpful. We also loved to see the neighborhood dogs and will really miss them and this house now that we are home. We loved it here and hope to return again in the future!

Better than described. Larger than described. Perfect for family gathering!
There are 12 of us. 7 adults and 5 kids (4-7 yrs). It is tough to find a place that fits everyone's needs. Well -Tygart Lake Guest House was amazing. We rode bikes, we hiked, we visited the waterfall, we swam in the lake as well as the river, we celebrated a birthday, we brought food and there was plenty of space to put it. We had a bonfire, we cooked s'mores, we used the grill - there is inside eating and outside eating areas and tables and chairs - areas in the front and areas in the back to sit, relax or watch the kiddos play. There are three bathrooms! There is a washer and dryer! There are games in the closet in the living room. The glorious quiet. My grand daughter, age 7, wants to buy it - it was perfect for our whole family! Only one suggestion: Take all you want food wise because it is a long way to get a gallon of milk!

Quiet, beautiful and relaxing!
This was our second time staying at the guest house. Our family loves the area and have family relatively nearby. Great get together point with plenty of space inside and out to visit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Fishing up and down the river and swimming were our favorites. House is very clean and comfortable, had everything we needed. Stores are close enough for groceries or anything else you may need. No phone service but WiFi kept us connected just enough. Kitchen well stocked and the washer and dryer is great considering how much time we spent in the river. Perfect location for unplugging and slowing down. We will be back again as soon as time permits. Thank you for sharing this great house!!

Enjoyable Experience
Our experience was enjoyable. The location enabled us to explore the region, relax and attend the main event, WVU commencement. The accommodations allowed three families, (5 adults and 2 small children) to have joint and private time. The historical aspect of the home, the sounds of the river, the waterfall down river and the views from the porch were more than we imagined. The kitchen and dining areas were spacious. The owners were welcoming and attentive. We truly felt part of the community with the friendliness of the people, a true characteristic of WV. Even though it was fully disclosed, the lack of cell phone reception was a bit of an adjustment for the techies in the group; WIFI was a satisfactory alternative. This is definitely a location for going off the grid. The pastures and river will soothe the soul.
