"Ciabòt di Cesare"
This small building, first mentioned in documents in 1755, was already used by the great-grandfather Cesare as a shelter for himself and his cattle, which grazed in the surrounding meadows during the summer months and was locked up in the stable on the ground floor of the Ciabòt at nightfall. In the Spartan upstairs, a simple meal was prepared by the open fire and slept on the stored hay.
The cottage was built from the stones of the Alta langa, which were stacked carelessly stacked only by "terra bagnata" (moist soil). Cesare used the building until a few years ago in the same way as his ancestors.
In recent years, however, it was no longer used and fell rapidly. It is thanks to Bruna, the daughter of Cesare, that it was lovingly restored and today serves the guests of the Alta Langa as a cozy holiday home. It is located in the middle of meadows and forests, on the edge of the municipality of Mombarcaro, with wide views over the valleys of Bormida and Belbo. Early risers can enjoy the sunrise over the hills from the terrace and watch the sunset over the Alps as a conclusion to a restful day.
The nearest building is about 400 meters away. (Agriturismo with good food).
The former stable houses today next to the staircase a small bathroom and a cozy kitchen, upstairs is the living room / bedroom of 20m2. The old walls and the roof construction remained untouched, as far as they were still available, and today give the Ciabòt its unmistakable charm.
The charming environment invites you to hike, directly from the house you can explore the surrounding forests, a few meters away runs the "sentiero girasole" one of the most famous and
most beautiful trails of Piedmont. Cyclists can explore the beauty of the area through small and very small streets. Day trips to Milan (2 hours by car), Turin (1 hour), Alba (45 minutes), Savona (45 minutes), Genoa (1 hour) offer interesting variety. Numerous churches and chapels in the vicinity offer those interested in culture insights into the art of the 12th to 18th centuries. Century.
In less than half an hour, several golf courses and tennis courts can be reached, horse riding, ballooning, language, cooking, stonemason, art-making and painting courses enrich the diverse range. It takes less than an hour to get to one of the ski resorts in Mondovi.
The Piedmont and especially the Alta Langa offers the gourmet a variety of delicious dishes, which are served in the taverns and Ristorante of the region, but also in simple Agriturismi. The world famous wines, Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato, Arneis and many others come from the Langa hills. The tasting of these wines in one of the countless wineries is just as much a part of the holiday program as a visit to one of the small farms that produce the delicious Tuma (cheese made from cow, sheep or goat's milk).
