My husband and I booked a loft double room on Travelocity for 69 euros, about one month ahead. Upon arrival at about 6pm on a Sun evening, the innkeeper claimed there was a problem with our card so he had rented the room to someone else. We confirmed with our credit card company that there was not (and had not been) a problem, proved that to the innkeeper, who promptly charged our card and escorted us to a room in the basement. I am not kidding! We declined that room and he very angrily with arms waving and Italian screaming, took us to a 2nd floor room, threw the key down on the bed and slammed the door. When my husband tried to talk to him later, he said he was tired and for my husband to go away.
We drove into the tiny town and the only place open had carry out pizza. We brought it back to the hotel and the same grumpy innkeeper was on the front porch, yelling "no food inside, you must eat outdoors".
What he's doing is dishonest and hopefully he will not be allowed to continue in that manner. We will never return.
