We stayed here on a trip to Monteverde Cloud Forest. When we checked in, the clerk tried to switch us to a cheaper room than the one we paid for; he said he'd throw in free breakfasts to try to make up the difference. It didn't really, plus we had brought our own food. In the end, after consultations with someone on the phone, he gave us the cabin we had booked. It's a good thing, as the unit we would have been switched to was near some very noisy people. The cabin was quaint, comfortable, and quiet (#8, I think), We engaged Jose (who had posted an advert in the room) to take us looking for birds. He did an outstanding job, and found us four quetzals and a toucan, plus lots of other wonderful birds. The next morning, a toucan flew past my window, which was fun. I also saw a pale-billed woodpecker on the property, and an agouti wandered past. The only down side, really, was that we came home with a bad case of chiggers. I don't know if we got them on the property or when we were out birding, but we had literally hundreds of excruciatingly itchy bites that lasted a couple weeks. So be forewarned: Don't leave any exposed skin around your ankles (tuck your pants into your socks), and when you get back to your hotel, put any clothes you wore in the forest (including shoes) into a sealed plastic bag. Also, take a shower immediately, scrub yourself well, and wash the clothes in hot water!
