The staff, breakfast, and location were great, and the nearby capuchin monkeys and wildlife were delightful. But… a hotel has one main job to do: provide a comfortable bed and pillow for a good night’s rest. Our three-night stay wasn’t great. Bed and pillows didn’t cut it. We liked the help with getting transportation and an excursion to the Cloud Forest Reserve, but we were always dreading the night’s sleep. If you’re going to drive all the way to Monteverde, stay somewhere more comfortable.
The lodge was initially hard to find as it is called El Bosque Hotel not Eco Lodge on signage out front. The staff were friendly and welcoming and they use WhatsApp to communicate which was helpful. We are a family of 4, 2 kids, 2 adults so we had a large room with 4 beds which was nice but there was no place to store any of our belongings— one desk and 2 small night stands only, a shelf or dresser would be helpful. The included breakfast was good. My only complaint about it is that it is from 630-830 and we slept until 8 a couple days (we are on vacation and from an earlier time zone) and then missed it. We did do a hike from the property which was nice and saw monkeys outside our room— super cool! Overall a nice stay!
Joshua did our check in and a big thank to him. He organized everything for us in a short time so that we were able to do all the activities we wanted in one afternoon. Really really much appreciated. A part from the lovely welcome, the hotel is simple but really nice and clean. It really feels like being a ranch and we appreciated our stay
The property is really nice but there is no reception area so the check in is at the restaurant and took a long time. The bed I slept in in the family room was not very comfortable but it worked.
Beautiful hotel in the middle of the rain forest, super friendly staff, hotel was clean and in walking distance to shops, restaurants and coffee shops.
All and all great place at a great price.
Loved the location for 2 major reasons:
1. On a preserve with multiple hiking trails that lead to a creek. We saw monkeys, birds, agounti, etc just by walking out our door!
2. The restaurant Tramonti associated with property is the best food we had in Costa Rica. We went there 2 nights in a row!
The hotel is in a great location. The rooms are clean and authentic except for the spiders but they are part of the experience. The showers have no water pressure and are not always warm. The staff is wonderful. It’s a very peaceful place to stay. The breakfast is traditional and delicious.
Very primitiv facility. The cabine was of very low standard in comparison to the weather condition. We hard 2 days storm and rain at night. The cabin was not wind closed at all and the corrugated roofplates sounded like an orchester when it was raining. The separation wall between the 2 cabins was not sound proof at all and a coughing neighbor kept us awake. The water pressure was very poor and the shower was a drip drip shower

Liked: Staff & service
I loved the location but the actual property was rather tired looking. It wouldn't take much to make the chalets in the woods more appealing. Staff were great and very helpful. The breakfast was good. Just disappointed in the decor and scruffy appearance inside the chalet itself.
Fantastic family run hotel. Staff very attentive to our ever need. Restaurant was great. Good breakfast every morning and plenty of dinner options. Kids loved playing in the pool. Hotel organised several excursions including to the Children's Eternal Rainforest, which was excellent. There is also a nice nature trail within the hotel grounds which makes for a very pleasant short walk. Very conveniently located, short car ride to La Fortuna for zip-lining, wildlife sanctuary and a wide selection of restaurants. Room was comfortable and clean. Relaxing, safe environment. Overall a great visit and would definately stay again.
We booked this hotel last minute while traveling and were very disappointed. It is more of a cabin than a actual hotel room and you could feel the wind blowing through as you slept. We had one towel each and no amenities, there was no hot water, the shower was dirty and had mildew/mold, the two chairs didn’t match and were unstable, there was no tv, no wireless, it was basically a cabin room. The toilet did work so that was a plus. Funny thing is I booked and prepaid online and when we arrived they charged an additional $20 per night for what they said were the “amenities”......there were no amenities.
We originally booked for 3 nights prepaid but the room was so bad we checked out early knowing we would forfeit the money....that tells you how bad it was.
They had a “complimentary” breakfast in the morning that was acceptable but not worth the additional $20 they charged for amenities. At breakfast we spoke with another couple who were also checking out early because of their dissatisfaction with the accommodations.
Good thing the rest of our vacation was exceptional!!!
