About this property

Entire place

Dog Friendly! Cottage on 70 acre Winery

Enjoy an idyllic setting overlooking a large, open pasture with gorgeous views of Skull Camp Mountain. Experience 70 acres with tons of trails to hike & always amazing sunsets over the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hike a half-mile+ of river frontage and swimming hole for the kids (or dogs)! Great place to relax and get back to nature with the family or enjoy a great romantic escape & fun weekend touring wineries! If you enjoy wine, the Serre Vineyards Tasting Room is generally open Friday-Monday 12-5

The Green House has been described as: A Very Special Place, Serene & Beautiful, Perfect Escape from City Life, Incredibly Scenery and Views, Gorgeous, Peaceful, Stylish Decor, A Place We Don't Want to Leave, Much More Beautiful than the Pictures, Our Dogs think they are in Heaven, Better than I could have Possibly Imagined, A Place We are Coming Back to See ASAP! You must see it to believe it and we hope you will!

The cottage overlooks a gorgeous open field with a dynamic view of Skull Camp mountain. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the tools you will need to cook. The bathroom also has a rain shower and SAUNA which is amazing!! The dining room patio doors open to a large outdoor fire pit surrounded by cozy, wicker patio furniture. We keep it stocked with firewood and feel free to bring more or collect wood around the property! There are two bedrooms and a game room/sleeping area (basically a 3rd bedroom - where you can set up our framed Aerobed) for additional space.

If you enjoy wine, Serre Vineyards is located at the top of the property. Our tasting room is generally open Friday - Sunday 1-5p. Please check our website for hours of operation and check our calendar for special music events and food trucks. You are always welcome!

Please note: no parties or events allowed

The entire house and property are yours to access. Please enjoy!

Please note: Parties are not permitted at The GreenHouse Cottage!

I am based in Charlotte, NC; however, can always be reached. The house is fairly self-sufficient; however, in case of emergency, I will provide information for local help.

I love to host and have for many years. I enjoy providing amazing experiences for my guests.

Enjoy our local farming and winery community. A drive through Mt. Airy is just what you need to relax and get away from it all. We love driving through the rolling hills, waving at the cows and horses. A trip to downtown Mt. Airy or Elkin is a must. Both are wonderful little towns with delicious restaurants and a few bars. There are several wineries within 20-30 minutes as well. Ours of course! - Serre Vineyards!!, Round Peak, Shelton, Old North State (more of a restaurant downtown Mt. Airy), Jolo, and Jones von Drehle are all excellent!

You will need a car to get around.

This property is "away from it all" and with that cell service can be spotty depending on your provider, but we do have super-fast fiber internet for wi-fi calling and texting.

The driveway is not hard paved - it is gravel. Our Prius makes it through just fine, but you will need to go slow. Higher clearance vehicles have no issues.

The home is in an open field near a clearing in the woods. We are surrounded by trees and a river about 1000 feet away. We do exterminate, but we are in the middle of the county, so there may be a bug or two that sneaks into the house.

Along with your cottage, we have another suite at the top of the property near the tasting room. We also participate in a program called Harvest Hosts - which is a hosting service for RVs. We occasionally have some Harvest Host guests. You may meet them in the parking lot or upper fire pit. We are on 70 acres, but occasionally you may run into another party.

THE GREENHOUSE INFO

While we hate the word “rules”, we do ask that you adhere to some to make your stay here pleasant for you (and for us!) as well as our neighbors. This is our personal vacation cottage and home away from home. We know you will treat it with care and courtesy. We have stayed at many Airbnbs/VRBOs ourselves over the years and we love what this community has become. We love hosting and hope you have an incredible time in Mt. Airy! If there is anything we can do to improve or make your stay more pleasant, please do not hesitate to let us know!

DOGS: We love hosting all well-behaved dogs! We love seeing them turn back into real dogs enjoying nature! We do ask that if your dog is up on any beds, to please set out an extra sheet to keep dog hair off comforters. Thanks for your help with this!

EXTRA SHEETS, BLANKETS & PILLOWS:
Find extra sheets etc. for the Aerobeds in the dresser in the bunk bedroom closet & hope chest.

WATER:
The water is great and safe to enjoy, but it is on a well and septic - please conserve resources as it's an old system and we'd like to keep others enjoying the experience. Please place as little as possible paper waste in the toilet. Please place feminine products in the wastebasket. Thanks!

TV:
We do not have cable, but you can sign in to your Netflix, Amazon or I heart radio accounts to watch shows. Living Room TV: Power on the TV using the button on the top right of the remote - it has a little red circle. Once it comes on, press the Netflix or Amazon button located ON the remote. Then sign yourself in. If for some reason it doesn’t work, try pressing the INPUT button and make sure you are on the correct input. We also have tons of DVDs. Please enjoy!

We also have Apple TV connected to the living room TV. Once you use the main remote to power on the TV, use that same remote to press INPUT & choose Apple TV (sometimes it says BlueRay). Then use the Apple TV remote and press MENU until you get to the Apple Dashboard. You can sign yourself in from there. Roku is available in the Master bedroom. Power the TV on and use the remote to turn on Netflix etc..

SAUNA:
The breaker is turned off to the sauna in the summer. If you want to use it, please go flip the breaker in the basement. Please use caution when in the sauna. People can get hurt using Saunas. Use your good judgment (and a Google search) for info on children using a sauna. Many sources suggest children under 12 should not use one. Please read the info sheet in this book and please don’t sauna without letting someone know you are in the sauna.

CELL SERVICE:
Cell service can be spotty at the house depending on your provider, but we do have super-fast fiber internet for wifi calling and texting. You will also be able to get a decent signal if you drive up to the top of the driveway.

PROPERTY USE:
Although our cottage is situated on 70 acres, and it may seem a great place to hunt, gun use (whether for target, hunting or other purposes) is strictly forbidden. You will be asked to leave immediately if guns are heard or hunting of any type is observed. We have very aware neighbors! That said, do not be concerned if you hear gunshots. Our neighbor across the river likes to engage in target practice sometimes.

TOYS IN THE SHED:
Please do not try to get the toys (AKA the ATVs and GoKart) running. Nothing in the shed is for your use except for the firewood for use in the outdoor firepit.

TRAILS:
There are many old trails and hunting blinds on the property. Use caution around the blinds as most are very old and not used anymore. There are trails that stem off the old horse barn, down by the river and off the main driveway on your way in. When coming down the driveway from the main road, those trails would be on your right. The driveway is our property line until you get to the green gate and then it widens. Please find a basic map included in the welcome notebook.

RIVER:
The river is gorgeous and refreshing and we hope you use it! If you head to the left a ways, our neighbor across the river dug out a bit of a swimming hole for his grandkids. There is a chance you will see him.

Absolute heaven!
Just me and my dog on this trip and I was blown away by the beauty of this property. The only picture to do it justice is the one in my mind. My girl got to run free and we played in the river hours on end. Enjoyed walking the property and simply unplug for two of the most fun filled relaxing days Ive had in a very long time. The cottage is a total vibe with eclectic vintage furniture and homey feel! I hope to visit again!

Perfect stop off 77 southbound
Spent the night en route to Lake Lure, proved to be just what we were looking for - easy to find + in & out of the property was a breeze, amenities are nice & the space is comfortable. We had our two pups with us, was fantastic they were welcome. Arrived too late for a visit to the winery, however in the morning we walked down to the river and drove up to see the facility, top notch. A + experience and Melissa was super to work with!

Not nearly as nice as the pictures
I had to reach out via messenger, phone call and text to confirm our reservation. Communication about check in is important especially when traveling with animals. The home smelled gross as if nobody had stayed there in months. There were wasps inside upon entry. The outside was very unkept, tall grass, wobbly stepping stones. The basement where the washer and dryer was had rodent traps and droppings all around. Overall the pictures glorified the home and property, I was hoping for a more of a comfortable stay. The updated bathroom and outdoor tub were as pictured and a very nice touch.

The house was very clean and comfortable! It is considerably more remote than we anticipated. Driving down the gravel road at night was a bit of a challenge, but all in all, we enjoyed our stay!

The greenhouse was great!
We really enjoyed our weekend at the greenhouse. The house is so well-equipped and comfortable. It is off the beaten path, but that's what we enjoyed most! Peace and quiet and a place to let our little dachshunds run around! Such a cool renovation, too. Thanks!

Fantastic stay
We had such a good time staying at this property. The house is great with lots of windows and light that let you see all of the beautiful scenery in every direction. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Mostof all it was fun to see how much our dogs enjoyed being there and hiking the property. We have already made a reservation to return.

Peaceful stay
Being a guest in this home was a nice experience.. I had communication, with a little creativity with phone / WiFi with the host, Melissa. I have vacay rental as well so other than that would not worry about disconnecting for the weekend I had questions and she answered them and most helpful is a guide to the home. We had no trouble navigating the path to the cottage with our vehicle. The space is very well stocked and even had a coffee grinder. Condiments available in frig and cabinets. Great utensils and variety of pans. Beds were very comfy. My grandson said he hatedto leave the comfortable bed in the 2nd bedroom. Our grand dog was able to come too and loved the smells and the river, and chasing his bone in the yard. We took walks to the river daily but did not get in as the currents were fast and did not know how deep. It is a rock ledge to step on but then you would need to jump in. There was also poison oak and ivy that has grown in the pathway and is tall.. we didn’t want the dog to get in it. It’s a great place to roam though. We would definitely return and take more time to explore further and enjoy the house. It’s a great space. We got a visit from the black kitty. The fireflies were out both nights and one of the nights it was clear, we had the most beautiful stargazing from the porch. It was very relaxing. Thanks, Melissa~Cindy, Mark, Lukas, and his shadow, Wrigley🐾

Hated having to leave!
The Greenhouse was perfect for me, my husband and our dogs. Although the house isn’t big, we had plenty of room indoors and wow, what an outdoors we had! The dogs loved being able to roam around outside and then come inside and lay on their beds in front of that fabulous living room window. As for the humans, we loved the bathroom. In previous vacation rentals we have had less than stellar showers but this one is great. The master bedroom was decorated nicely. The bed was a little softer than we like but it was still comfortable. As for the area, we enjoyed spending time in Mt. Airy. We would recommend Mi Casa on Main for tacos, Bark and Meow for really big dog treats, Mill Creek General Store for snacks and deli food. We enjoyed learning about whiskey at Mayberry Distillery and drove over to Elkin for lunch at Southern on Main and wine tasting at Slightly Askew Winery. Next trip we want to visit Round Peak Vineyard/Skull Camp Brewery which is close to the house. We are looking forward to returning soon.

Great location to recharge!
This small but well appointed cabin has everything you need to have a relaxing stay in a beautiful location. It's a good jumping off point for the Yadkin Valley wine country, but you may find yourself just wanting to stay put, read a book, and enjoy the view. If you have dogs, they will think they have died and gone to heaven. Melissa was very responsive to any questions that we had.
