We had the best experience staying at Pension Hobby during our visit to Japan. The owners are very kind and they went out of their way to make our stay memorable.
Our room was simple and clean with a modern space heater.
Norikura itself is tiny and the number of restaurants is limited. This didn’t matter at all since we had fantastic dinners (set menu) at Pension Hobby every night during our stay. Breakfast always included homemade yoghurt, milk, jam, sausages, bacon and so on. All of he food was delicious!
The lift system is small but this is easily offset by smaller crowds on powder days and Cortina is easy to access without having to catch a bus. You can get a discount coupon from Pension Hobby for Norikura or Norikura+Cortina tickets.
The lifts are a short walk up the street away and the Onsen is short walk in the opposite direction. The shuttle bus connecting to the rest of Hakuba valley is located close to the lifts.
Thank you again for a great stay!
Cosy, family run hotel. Norikura/Cortina are pretty quiet but staying here made us feel at home. Definitely enjoy the home cooked meals if you get the chance to stay here!
Loved it here. Would come back, the host and family are the best! Great hospitality and amazing food.

Close to ski fields. Owners are great
Good location if you want away from the hustle and bustle yet close to ski fields. Great little in house restaurant. Rooms are quite big. Owners are fantastic, very helpful and nice. They have cheap lift passes. Overall has a great time.
The elderly couple who run the Pension were incredibly friendly and helpful. They picked us up from the train station and dropped us off again when we left because we didn't have a car. The food they make there is all delicious and fresh (they have two cows so the milk, cheese, and jogurt were amazing, and we got to try milking the cows ourselves). Our room for 3 people was pretty small, and the WiFi was sometimes slow, but the warmth of our hosts and the fact that it's a 2 minute walk to the Norikura lifts and a 5 minute walk to the Cortina lifts easily made up for it. Highly recommended.
