My wife and I were in Nassau to celebrate our anniversary, and were looking for a place to stay that was going to be away from the chaos of the resorts and downtown Nassau night life. This was definitely the place! We rented a car from the hosts rather than secure transportation services from elsewhere. Being from the US, driving a right hand car in the left lane was a little stressful at first. But if you don't get into a huge hurry and take your time, you'll be just fine.
Elike and Jan were wonderful hosts and very respectful of privacy and space. The cottage was simple and comfortable with everything you need in terms of dishes, towels, etc. There is a very nice grocery store within approx. 20 minutes drive from the cottage to get the fridge stocked. Just about everything has to be imported, so getting the groceries and cooking some of your meals saves quite a bit of money.
You're on the southwest-ish side of the island and downtown Nassau is on the opposite side of the island. Rush hour traffic (@ 8 & 5) on New Providence is NO JOKE. A lot of folks are heading to work and just as many kids are headed to their respective schools. I recommend either starting your day in downtown early, at stupid-o'clock, to avoid some of the traffic craziness unless you've got a driver. Either way, you'll be on the road and in traffic for approximately 1.5 hours. Some of the drive leaves you sitting in sketchy areas of the city, but my wife and I were very obviously not Bahamian, and we didn't have any negative experiences along the way. Traffic back to the cottage was the same.
In summary...
Great place to stay if you're wanting to relax and avoid the crowds!
Park at The Pointe if you go downtown.
Go to Jaws Beach! It's a short drive, and a really pretty beach to hang out and relax. We had the beach almost to ourselves.
Go to Clifton Heritage National Park! Pay the fee! You'll get access to the park and there are a couple of very nice beaches to enjoy as well. They offer snorkeling also, which we didn't get to try because we didn't find the place until too late on our last day on the island. But it was cheaper than doing one of the "excursion" trips you'll find (i.e. Pearl Island, Blue Lagoon, etc.).
There are Solomon's Fresh Market bags in the bottom drawer of the island in the kitchen. Grab them before you go to the store or you'll have to buy some at the store.
All in all, highly recommend staying with Elike and Jan in Coral Harbor!
