Sweitzer Creek Off-Grid Cabin

Sweitzer Creek Cabin is 15 minutes outside of beautiful Marquette, Michigan. Bordering 265,000 acres of public access land you’re free to hike, atv, snow mobile, fish and hunt on seemingly endless land. Sweitzer creek is just steps down the hill from the cabin. Completely off grid and self sustaining, our cabin has a propane generator that provides power and heat. Rain water and melting snow is collected to provide water for the restroom and showers. Drinking water is in sealed containers. If you want to truly feel the amazing aspects of nature this is the place for you. Four wheel drive is suggested in the winter because you never know when a heavy snowfall will come

Cute cabin
Overall it was a great trip and had a great time. At first we got lost but I blame that on us not having service and lack or knowledge about the area so have an idea beforehand of whereabouts where the property is. When we arrived there was a surplus of flies in the house as well as little to no kitchen utensils. Other than that it was a cute cabin that was nice for the nature aspect.

Nice hideaway
It was a little frustrating to find in the dark but once we learned the area, it was easy after that. I would probably suggest instructions for indoor burner in case someone isn’t familiar with that particular burner and how it operates.

Cool Cabin but Misleading
So I stayed at this property with my sister. After booking it we did not receive anything from the host about the location or details on check-in. When we went to find the cabin, the pin attached to the property was in a completely different place than it was supposed to be. When we followed it, it took us to the Empire Mine. It was late, and the host was not able to respond to us for help. We eventually enlisted the help of a local mine security worker and he was able to find it via google satellite images. We never would have found it without his assistance because like I said, the address and pin in the app were completely inaccurate. If you book this cabin, make sure you ask for very specific directions ahead of time because it was not easy to find! Also make sure that you know how to work a generator and can lift huge jugs for water as well. The cabin was lovely and really cool, I just think the listing needs to be more transparent about what it's really like and where it's at. We had a great time though.

Wonderful
We had a great time! We went packed and ready for “glamming” trip and got just that! The property is beautiful including the creek that runs on the back side. Yes, we had to put water in the toilet tank because the pipes were frozen and yes we heated water on the stove for washing dishes but this place was just perfect despite those things. Will definitely return and recommend 100% if you want a peaceful, relaxing getaway!

A few issues, but overall not bad
This property was ok overall. This is an off-grid cabin and we were well aware of that. Positives are that we were able to stay warm with a combination of the propane heater on the wall and the wood stove. The property owner was responsive to any questions or concerns that we had and had sent a neighbor to come help us out with some issues we were having. We had a steady supply of power via the propane generator which was a very nice feature for an off-grid cabin. The property was nice, he made sure the trail back to the cabin was plowed and accessible for us. I think based on the listing photos and lack of explaination on amenities I had a different idea of what we were booking than we ended up with. In the thick of a Michigan winter, the rain barrels and water inside the toilet were frozen upon arriving. We had no running water and weren’t able to melt the frozen rain barrel the entire length of our stay. We weren’t able to take showers as a result of that. We were however able to flush the toilet by using 5 gallon water jugs the neighbor brought us. I think this cabin needs to have a disclaimer that during winter months the water usage may be limited if not nonexistent. The bathroom has a terrible draft and I’m not sure it’s capable of holding any heat whatsoever. It’s clear the living area could use a good vacuum and the bathroom could use a pretty good cleaning. I don’t believe this is a bad property, but the winter maintenance needs work, I’m sure it’s great in summer.
