Some problems due to workmen staying at the youth hostel. Wandering through corridors in tight, skimpy underpants, noisy, unfriendly. Also urine all over toilet seat in men's bathroom/toilets on first floor.

The location is excellent. It's close by to the light rail station and bus stop. It's also close to the beach! Plenty of dining option nearby. The facilities are also great. I especially like the lounge area. Most importantly, I feel safe staying there as a solo female traveller. Feedback: The pillow case and the blanket in my single room has stains on them.

Easy access from newcastle interchange train station to property via light rail, i was checking in after hours, staff really helpful over the phone, pleasant single room, great price , nice and close to beach /cafes

Good base, nice atmosphere
The place is clean with good facilities and a nice atmosphere. Minutes from shops, places to eat and the beaches. It’s an old building so can be noisy- windows rattle, pipes scream, floorboards creak and the rooms need to have slow shutters attached- doors slam all night. Good communal areas and friendly, helpful staff.

There were plenty of spaces to relax in no matter whether you wanted to be social or quiet. The place was very well ventilated, easing anxiety around Covid. One of the voluntary cleaners played very loud music as she cleaned and I wasnt in the mood for a confrontation to tell her to turn it down (has she not heard of headphones?). The location was amazing, quick walk to beach and light rail. We would stay again.

Such a great atmosphere here with Chesterfield lounges, fireplace and old world charm. Value for money for sure! Can't beat the location either. Located beachside and within walking distance of all the sights. Would definitely stay again :)

Prime location
Pros: prime location, steps away from the beach and tram stop, big and clean kitchen, huge common area, heater in the dorm was a big plus. Cons: very quiet, lacks the typical youth hostel atmosphere, lots of 40+ people staying. It would be nice to have more toilets on the ground floor. People staying long-term in dorms not willing to socialise with other guests (a common issue in YHA hostels in Australia), but I understand this is not the hostel's fault.
