Absolutely amasing experience. The room was spacious, staff was very welcoming and helpful. Baths were great. Kaiseki dinner was a wonderful experience. Breakfast had lots of different options to choose from.

The East Wing Western Style rooms is conveniently located by the building morning and dinner buffets and also a 2-3 minute walk to the Grand Bath. The room size is also larger for the 2 twin bedrooms versus the queen size bedrooms. There is a 300 yen per person per day tax that needs to be paid separately at check in. Also they try to charge me an additional dinner buffet cost of 13,200 yen when I was checking out. It’s rather unusual because my room included the breakfast and dinner buffet, and they don’t advertise a separate buffet option if you choose a room without the buffet options. Overall an excellent stay experience.

The Onsen experience at the hotel was exceptional! There are so many different Onsen baths to try out. The view of the Hell Valley on the men side was magnificent.

Our room is the Japanese style, spacious, bigger than I expect. The breakfast and dinner buffets are delicious. The hotel is very convenient, walkable to Hell Valley. It is a different experience.

Nice Room - Disappointing Hotel
If all you want from a hotel is a nice room then this hotel is fine, our room was very nice. However apart from a very extensive and very busy onsen the hotel offered little else. The restaurant closed at 8pm and the only place open to eat was in the basement which resembled an amusement arcade. In the morning when we fancied a late morning coffee the hotel recommend going to a cafe over the road and there was no where to sit in comfort. Disappointed overall..

Huge Ryokan with comfortable and spacious room. The highlight is the public bath which has 10+ different indoor and outdoor hot tubs with different minerals. Absolutely outstanding. WiFi was fine and stay was good. Didn’t take their meal plan because I felt it was too expensive. Note that the small town has limited restaurant options - most were closed at night in November. Ended up getting dinner at the 7-11 and drinks at the local alcohol shop which had a really nice selection of Hokkaido sake, wine and beer. But the reason to be there is for the great onsen

The various medicinal pools, saunas, regular pools within the hotel. Very safe for single woman travelling. I saw many couple (older woman with one daughter ….older man with son) coming to rest and enjoy the benefits of the medicinal pools.

The hotel collect Yen300 per person/ nite as Onsen tax, whether or not you use the onsen which i tot is absurd! Those who dont use the onsen, its 'free' money to the hotel. Other than this, the hotel is located in a prime spot! Paking is not withink the hotel but opposite the hotel, an open carpark.

I was expecting this to be either an antiquated behemoth of a lodging or a difficult to navigate resort complex. It was neither. Takimotokan is an extraordinarily well run complex with a world class hot spring and superior modern rooms with zen views of gardens and forests. Extremely navigable for foreigners as well.
