Location and quality was good for the price. Pretty mediocre service, staff was cool. They charge 15 dollars for breakfast, and the options are very limited and not up to par for 15 dollars. It only had bagels, lunch meat, bread, pancakes and cereal. No eggs no bacon and still expected to pay. Also need to upgrade AC. Overall good.

The customer service was excellent. They texted several times to ask what they could do to make the stay better. Initially the Air Conditioner seemed to not be working great. They assigned an engineer and fixed it almost instantly. And followed up via text several times to make sure that the AC was still working well. Kudos to the staff at Normandy Hotel.

The blackout shades in the room did not work. When I went to bed and turned off the lamp, the lights from across the alleyway shined down around the shades and onto the upper half of the 2 beds. I was unable to shift the shades left or right to get rid of the light shining on the bed. In the end, I had to sleep on the right edge of the bed next to the window so that I could sleep. The room was also dusty. Staff apologized and said they'd never heard of that happening before.

Disappointing Stay
The location was great for accessing our conference at the Hilton, and the room rate was more reasonable than others nearby. I wanted to love it, but there were a few too many negatives. Of course, it’s a historic building so some things are to be expected, like small rooms, and it was clean and well-maintained. The self-serve cheese & wine in the evening was a nice touch. Our check in process was disappointing because of how poorly the person working treated the guests. Not welcoming at all, abrupt, and impolite. We thought maybe it was just us, but then witnessed her treat another couple rudely as well. While we were there the weather was hot, and their AC was not working properly. The first night was miserable. We asked the staff and the apologized & offered a fan. That helped for the second night, but it was still unpleasant. It was working better by the 3rd night, but by then we were pretty over it. The same staff member that helped us at checkin was working a subsequent night and we witnessed her again being quite rude to several guests. She definitely escalated the situation rather than diffused it. Another staff member (maybe a manager) stepped in and smoothed things over. Overall, I would recommend the hotel for its location close to DuPont Circle, but beyond that I would stay somewhere else next time I’m in DC.

My room needed a paint job and new blinds. The bathroom was new and beautiful. The lobby is well appointed. The breakfast is bare bones. The day before my stay I received a call that the hotel a/c wasn’t working and that I could cancel without charge. I had to spend an hour scrambling to find a room last minute. Then I called and was told they would send me to another hotel. Then I arrived and they said the a/c was working in the room I would have. My guess is that they had a floor that wasn’t working and were calling the Expedia reservations trying to get some cancellations. I would have been out a few hundred extra dollars for the room elsewhere had I not followed up.
