River Island House is nestled on a private, wooded island at the foot of the rugged Beartooth Mountains, on the West Fork of the Stillwater River in Nye, Montana. Located at the water's edge, you'll enjoy the amenities of the most discriminating taste, with the relaxed comforts of a cozy, beautiful 2-story log home. There are comfortable sleeping accommodations for up to 10 people, with 4 bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths.
Enjoy the spacious living room, dining area, and well-equipped kitchen. Upstairs, snuggle into the large, cozy sofa and enjoy the 60" tv. Sit by a warm fire in the evening or on one of the decks, just a few feet from a wild river with all-native trout fishing. Kick back and relax in the 2-person hot tub.
There are two large decks overlooking the river. Upstairs, relax on the comfortable outdoor sofa & two chairs. Downstairs, there is a grill, table seating for up to 12 people, and there are two Adirondack chairs for relaxing.
Just off the front lawn and nestled next to the woods, gather around the firepit for a relaxing time with family and friends. Wood-burning fireplace in the living room and gas fireplaces in 2 of the bedrooms. Note: The rushing water sound is soothing, though it can be loud in Summer - If you're a light sleeper, consider bringing earplugs.
Locally, you can find 100+ miles of roads for hiking, 4-wheeling, day trips, or wildlife watching. Multiple trailheads. Breathtaking mountain views and scenic drives. Local activities include hiking, bird & wildlife watching, Blue Ribbon all-native trout fishing, numerous back-country guides, raft fishing guides, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and more.
With a population of approximately 200 people at an elevation of 4852', Nye is a small community where people cherish the land. The Stillwater River offers sparkling waters and Blue Ribbon trout fishing. Many great hiking trails are near Nye, Woodbine Falls, Emerald and Mystic Lakes, just to name a few.

From Nye, the 8-mile drive to Woodbine, in Custer National Forest, has been described as one of the most scenic drives in Big Sky Country. There, you can take a leisurely hike to the Woodbine Waterfall.

It's about an hour drive with breathtaking scenery to the historic mountain town of Red Lodge. From there, you can take Hwy. 212 up to the stunning beauty of the Beartooth Highway, a National Scenic Byways All-American Road (to elevations of 11,000' with quaint mountain towns along the way), which leads to Yellowstone National Park. You can drive approx. 2-1/2 hours to Livingston and then south through Paradise Valley to the charming town of Gardiner, then one mile to the famed Roosevelt Entrance to Yellowstone National Park (where you will often be greeted by herds of bison) with easy access to Yellowstone's upper loop.
