Delightful old wreck
We arrived after an arduous day of travel to find a house that provided no soap, not the number of beds promised, and a general air of decay that pervaded the property. I complained to the property manager, and to her credit she rustled up an airbed, plus soap, conditioner, and shampoo for all bathrooms. And brought two bottles of wine as an apology. (She also assisted with a forgotten item, which we were grateful for.) Fortunately my family members were tolerant of shore-house decay, and found it poignant to be in the ruins of a formerly elegant property. And as long as you weren’t actually IN the house, it couldn’t have been better. The location is stunning. After delivering the necessaries, the rental agent informed me that the house was going to be torn down in two weeks, so it may already be gone. In case they delay the wrecking ball, just prepare yourself for grannie’s abandoned summer home and you’ll be ok. Many people wouldn’t be, for the price.

Beautiful views, nice lot , house is really run down.
The location is great with wonderful views. Doesn’t look like there is water access on the lot but I think there may be a public dock of some kind next door. The house itself is extremely old. It is way older than 70 years. There were gnats swarming in the downstairs bathroom. The other shower didn’t drain. The banister to the stairs are falling apart and appeared to be loosely nailed together. This is a hazard if anyone needs to actually use the banister. The back door has no lock and is closed with a doorstop. I accidentally opened one of the side doors while I was looking for the main entrance. There were other issues as well. My family stayed one night as it was about to storm but we got a refund for the 2nd night of the weekend. When I Notified the host they were responsive but used the excuse “this is an old house”. I don’t think old home would imply non-functioning bathrooms, flies and unsecured doors.

Lovely location, charming cottage
We all liove the various Connecticut shore towns, and Ild Lyme was delightful. We revisited some favorite spots, and discovered a few new ones. The vintage appliances were particularly nice to find, and looking at old photos, we realized that the original cottage was really 100 years old!
