Hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is located centrally, which made it a great pick to get around the city. The rooms were clean, but in need of some maintenance to get them back into good condition. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room. Our room had scratches and some staining on the walls, grout in the bathroom was discoloured and the furniture could use some updating (scratches on the table, the sitting chair were a bit discoloured). All that said, it was a great central spot to see the city!

The japanese room (10 tatami mats) is very spacious (by japanese standard) and has divided living/sitting areas. The decor seems dated and worn. However, for the convenience of location and space, i would stay there again.

We changed from our inital room because it was extremely dark and weirdly laid out. Second room was more comfortable, comparatively. Staff were courteous and helpful. Hotel is in just okay shape. Bathrooms are uncomfortable and outdated. Showerheads are misplaced and difficult to use (too close to the wall). Chairs and tables in rooms are worn out. Hotel doesn't provide water to room unless you agree to not have the room cleaned every day. Our bathroom sink only had scaldingly hot water. The seventh floor is noisy because there is a kitchen / service area entrance without a door on that floor.

Japanese style rooms were good. Unfortunately our stay started a little disappointing because we were made to pay for an extra futon bed at $70ish AUD extra DESPITE the booking confirming two single beds and two futon beds - We were only given two single beds. The attitude of the staff was to just share the two single beds between four of us (2x adults, 2x children) - They also only supplied two towels despite there being four of us. Apart from this downfall, our stay was otherwise ok.

Amazing location and a great hotel
Although the hotel is rather dated, the location, rooms and service makes up for it. It's located just at the crossroads of Takashimaya, 0101 and Nankai rail. From Namba subway station, it's a little further away but still nearby. If u have a lot of luggage, I suggest not taking exit 6 of the subway exit as it's stairs. Go from the main road. Itami airport bus stop is just outside the hotel. Same day Luggage delivery service is also in same building. We had a huge tatami room. The housekeeping team kept the place clean and tidy. They even changed the fresh flowers in the room each day. The hotel key has to be left at the reception each time you leave which can be a pain since it's a different floor, but I guess it's just a small hassle. I've added photos of the side view of the hotel. There's a bubble tea shop downstairs at the side which has long queues every day. You can see 0101 on the left and takashimaya building on the right at the traffic light junction just outside the hotel. Overall, a great hotel to enjoy Japanese ryokan stay in the city.

I like the tatami style. But the most part i dont like is the ventilation air conditioner, It was too hot and the window is sealed and not able to open at all. Air flow system is very bad.

Firstly, we the pictures shown was not what we expected. It showed us the Ryokan and we came excited to go through the Japanese experience. So we were dissapointed when it wasnt. The air conditioning doesn't respond fast to the temperature adjusted and left the room stuffy and hot.

Pros : beautiful layout in rooms and corridors / excellent service from multi lingual staff / authentic Japanese ambience in the room Cons : The inconvenience of having to keep key at counter / no post check out luggage storage (but you get to store bags for free in the luggage centre in the same building / walls in the modern Japanese wall and ceiling in bathroom although beautiful are spiky, someone can get hurt if they press against the wall too hard Would I come here again? Maybe for the service and if there is another room type with no spiky walls (which is a shame because if this was remedies the modern Japanese room would be perfect!)

The location of the hotel was great. Near JR and subway lines, it's easy to get around. But the hotel is old and it shows in the room. The room partition doors were stained and the flooring is fraying. Apparently, even though I put in my booking that it's 2A&2C, I'm only giving 2 (smaller than) single size mattresses. Not sure how they expected an adult and a child to share a single mattress. Plus, it was suppose to be a Japanese room with futon, the mattress was not futon. In the room, we found a line closet with additional mattresses, so we took one more out on our own for my husband to sleep and was charged an additional Y3000 per night. The toilet was small with insufficient lighting which made me feel like it is not so clean. Overall, of all the 5 hotels we stayed on this trip, this was the worst.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ichiei. We were greeted by Natsuko at the front desk and registration was smooth. All the front desk staff were very helpful. We stayed in the Modern Japanese Tatami room which was quite spacious since the ‘bedroom’ was separate from the living room. Every amenity was included in the room so if you forgot toothbrush etc, no need to run out to buy one. The hotel location is perfect as it was steps away from Takashimaya and Namba City malls as well as Shinsaibashisuji Shopping Street. Dotonburi was just past Shinsaibashi. Hotel Ichiei is far enough from the hustle and bustle so it was nice and quiet for a very relaxing sleep - the half block away makes a big difference. Should you need to do laundry, there is a 24 hour laundromat about 5 minutes away. The machines dispense detergent and fabric softener, but if you want extra softness there is a vending machine for it. Namba Station entrance is literally just outside the door to the hotel. If you’re arriving for the first time using the train, look for exit number 6 and that will take you right to the hotel entrance.
