Don't ever book a whirlpool room here!
Since the last time I stayed here, the hotel appears to have changed their television service and they now have ROKU TV. No instructions were provided anywhere in the room or the guest information booklet, to offer suggestions on optimal operation. So, in addition to having to do a lot of work to try to make it function at all, the entire time I was trying to watch anything at all, including regular TV, the channels were exceptionally hard to find and the TV was buffering every 3-4 minutes all night long, which was highly unsatisfactory. I had a whirlpool in my room, no instructions for operation were provided for those who might need them. You have to get out and reset every 12-15 minutes, none of the jets put out much power at all, and it was definitely not worth the extra money for that type of room. The hotel and room were clean. The mattress was comfortable, but bed was made in a manner that it was impossible to pull up the sheets and bedspread far enough to fully cover up and be comfortable.

The site manager/owner was so kind, so polite and so helpful. Was there to help with any question we had. He appreciated our business and made sure we knew it. So refreshing. Hotel room was comfy and clean, as expected…but the service was over the top!!!

We stayed here last year and it was a great stay, but this year after all of the remodeling it was absolutely fantastic! Such a great place for a great price. Pool was clean. Rooms were spacious and clean. Will definitely stay again.

This has always been our go-to hotel when we stay in Ottumwa. It’s usually clean and well maintained with a decent breakfast selection This trip was a little bit different. We were given a handicapped accessible room which was a surprise and that would have been ok but the shower grout had mold/mildew in the lower half. Also the toilet had some kind of wooden lid on it that was covered in black mold on the bottom side. We opened it because the mold in the shower couldn’t account for the strong smell after a couple of days. Also, the card lock entry side entrance, which was the closest to our room, only worked the first day or so. They said it was just “resetting” itself and it should work but it never did again. We didn’t get our towels replaced even when we didn’t have the “do not disturb” on the door. Good thing we weren’t there long enough to take a lot of showers! I think this property it not being maintained as well as it was for the last 20 years or so. Sad to see.
