Great location in the middle of Oxford. Brunch cafe downstairs was wonderful.

Comfortable enough.
While the bed is very comfortable, the 5 star rating of this hotel is a little mysterious. There is no cafe or restaurant although these are available outside the hotel. I was moved from a noisy room on the ground floor near the desk to a quiet room at the back. Room showed some signs of wear, carpet stain, marked fabric on the chair. It was adequate overall.
The hotel is smack in the middle of the city and a short walk to bot the train station and the main bus terminal. Although George street has deteriorated in the last years, the hotel is across from the theatre so it is lively and feels more or less safe. Cafe on the left. Two nice pubs on the right.

I reported 3 problems to the reception:
- There was a separate controller for the underfloor heating in the bathroom outside the bathroom.
- In the bathroom, the shaving mirror had been fixed in a makeshift manner. At the first touch, the movable arm broke at the very thinnest point. I took a photo of the mishap and reported the damage. Yes, said the very friendly receptionist (a member of the family that had built the hotel in recent years), it was known. They were replacing 50 mirrors in the hotel. The Chinese manufacturer had delivered poor quality goods.
The window could not be opened. A note attached to the window as a warning stated that a guest had damaged the window. The window could not be opened until it had been repaired. The air conditioning would provide enough fresh air. We only discovered this note on the morning of our departure. Until then, we had assumed that the windows were locked ‘for security reasons’, as in many hotels in the USA.

No good experience
The hotel is not a 5 star hotel, the room is very small, there are no views, just some ceilings. I wrote to the hotel to ask if they could put some prosecco in because we were celebrating our anniversary. They didn't answer until 3pm, obviously they didn't give us the room. Paying 200 pounds for this hotel is a nightmare, it has nothing good. Sorry, the location is great. Otherwise, I wouldn't stay here again.
Fantastic location and very welcoming. Staff were lovely.
Room was large and clean. Recommendation's are to offer a choice of pillow's as I found them way too firm but this is a personal choice.
It would be great if they could find a way to offer breakfast.
Would definitely stay here again.
Check-in was appalling. Even though I'd called ahead and requested an early check-in, and had it confirmed, I was left to use the toilet in reception to get changed and head out for the afternoon/ evening. The room was very cramped and decorated as if a blind person had been let loose in the 3rd aisle of Lidl. There was no window and the bed was possibly the most uncomfortable I've ever had the misfortune to sleep in. An all round shocking establishment.
Very dated hotel. Our room was in the basement and was very small (not much room between the end of the bed and the wall), AC unit was loud all night but had to stay on because of the heat in the room. We had no sleep and left at 7am just to leave the hotel.
Apart from location there is nothing to recommend this hotel. Quite why it has 5 stars on the door I have no idea.
The room was very dated, there were stains in the toilet and the towels have been laundered so frequently they are off white. The mattress didn’t fit the divan it was placed on. I was given the disabled access room which didn’t help!
There were some sachets of fresh milk in the fridge and L’Occitane toiletries which was good. My remote control for the TV was missing.
I was woken up the next morning by the window cleaner- which again wasn’t great and it was relatively noisy overnight both with street noise and the lift which you can hear whirring.
All in all I would avoid and certainly not worth the money. I have stayed in >30 hotels this year and this is the worst so far.
The hotel is in a great city centre location, within easy walking distance of the main tourist sights. However, this also had a disadvantage if you are a light sleeper, as there were large groups of people talking outside until about 2am (I assumed from people outside pubs / clubs) that could be heard even on the 3rd floor. Unfortunately our stay also coincided with the glass bottle bins being collected at 6am.
On the positive side, the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, everything was spotless, all the facilities worked and there was good access control from the ground floor.
The bed was very comfortable, and heating / air conditioning worked very well despite being incredibly quiet.
Buses to and from the Peartree and Redbridge Park and Ride services came very close to the hotel (about 2 doors away on the Peartree inbound service!) Buses to the Oxford United ground were also close by.
There is no breakfast at the hotel, but the Oxford Brunch Bar next door was excellent and gave a 10% discount to hotel guests.
The area around the hotel was safe and there were a good variety of restaurants and pubs within a 10 minute walk.
We would probably stay again if visiting Oxford in the future.

It was ok and right in the city centre. Was mystified why the lady on reception asked me to email my passport information to the hotel!! I didn't bother.

My one (short) night at George St. Hotel was fine. For a luxury hotel, I found the facilities to be a little on the shabby side (there was a sliding door that did't quite close, and the warren of mirrored, gold-trimmed corridors that lead up to the first-floor reception were quite dated; the stairs are also uneven and marked with striped hazard tape) though everything was basically fine for a single night's stay. The staff was friendly, and the shower was excellent.
The cleaning crew that came in early in the morning was very noisy, however, and this wasn't exactly what I was looking for the morning after a late formal dinner. Underwhelming for its description on the web (the Randolph it is not) but actually totally OK.
Great location near train and bus station. Some normal street noise at night, but perfect and comfortable base of operations for exploring the many nearby historic sites
