This is a lovely B&B with a calm view of the bay. Palacios is far from the hustle so it’s perfect for a retreat and this is the place you’ll want to stay at. Paula, the owner, is personable and makes the place homey and welcoming. The cute cats fascinated my family. The breakfast was hearty and delicious. A great way to kick back. The suite on the first floor is quiet and has a bath tub and shower. The king bed was comfortable. We slept like babies. While the place may need some cosmetic touch ups it stays cosy and inviting. I would recommend for couples or singles looking for quiet or for a small family of 3. Lots of fishing spots all around.
This is an incredibly unique property. I happened to be there at probably the worst time of the year--not, unfortunately on vacation, but rather for business, but still found the experience very positive. The home itself is lovely and very well kept. However the most important reason to try the Pelican is to meet the owner, who is lovely. She knows the area, has plenty of great suggestions about what there is to do, where to eat, and the breakfast she served was amazing. If you are heading in this direction, or even if you are not planning to, try the Pelican!
Everything was great about the place. Not much in terms of restaurants or activities to do in the area, but that's not really anything the hotel owner can control.
The residence was in excellent condition with beautiful old fashioned accomodations. Breakfast was very good plus with a little park and the bay right across the street for an early morning stroll. Palacios was a fun little getaway but peaceful town. If we get the chance, we will be back!
We very much enjoyed the Pelican. My son and I stayed here during a sailing event and really felt at home. It is on the water with good views and the bed was super comfortable. We also very much enjoyed the "home-cooked" breakfast. We would definitely stay there again.
Very peaceful place to stay. It is a great place for someone looking for a quiet, away from people type of vacation. It was perfect for us retired older people. Breakfast was good and hospitality was excellent. Our room was so very clean and looked over the bay. You couldn't swim in the bay across from the hotel, that was a little disappointing, but we drove over to Matagorda Beach and to Magnolia Beach. Ate at a local restaurant both nights, the food was excellent, highly recommend this restaurant, the Bayside
Friendly staff, great staff and great breakfast . loved visit with other guest and close to the beach. clean and comfortable rooms

I chose downstairs suite, since I was traveling with my dog. I didn’t know there were at least five stray cats that they feed at back of home. They’re very friendly with humans, but my dog wasn’t too happy with them. This is a heads up for all those allergic to cats!
The house is over a 100 years old, so understandably made a lot of noises. My dog once again wasn’t too fond of all of them.
Also, there were so many mosquitoes out this time of year. Back door allowed them to enter room easily. Owners do provide off, but no body wants to sleep with that on their bodies. This is a notice for all those with sweet blood prone to getting bites.
Check in is easy as there’s no paperwork or showing ID. Actually, you show up and keys are in door of room that you booked. Many times B&B owners were not there to greet guests. For clarity, front door remains open at night.
Chef Ruth makes dinner for guests and locals. While it is not a requirement to join, please note that 15-20 people may be visiting and staying late at house.
It’s definitely in perfect location across water and sea wall.
This is a wonderful, quiet Bed & Breakfast! We just wanted to get away for awhile & this was a great place. Ruth was very welcoming and cooked a great breakfast! Our room had a great view of the bay, if the weather would have cooperated, it would have been perfect. It is just a short walk to the water, fishing & picnic areas. The bed could have been a little more comfortable, but overall a very nice room. Really enjoyed the deep, claw footed bathtub in our private bathroom. The house has a nice sun room and a comfortable front porch that looks out over the water. We will definitely go back when the weather is better.
Amazing. Everything about the three days we had here was perfect. Paula was a great help of putting us in places to put our kayaks in the water. She and Colleen did an excellent job with breakfast. We will be back sooner than later.
It was our first time at a bed and breakfast and we were very impressed. We got there and there was a note on the door, that said to come on in and make yourself at home, so we did. Room was nice and had an awesome view of the bay. In the morning the owner Paul cooked as an awesome breakfast and sat down with us to eat and visited with us all, it was just like a home cooked family breakfast. If your looking for a very relaxing place to chill, we highly recommend it. Be warned though the town is very small and not much to do there short of fishing and relaxing.
