I was a single male traveler, and I wanted cleanliness, simplicity, a touch of individuality, air conditioning, and a bath room with hot water. This hotel supplied all those features at a very reasonable price. In addition, it was quiet although less than a block off main street, two blocks to the zocalo/plaza and with at least two tasty restaurants nearby. The owner was very pleasant, and when he was around the staff was attentive. No coffee available before breakfast which begins at 7:30, so if you want to be there when Palenque opens, you will need to make other arrangements. Alert: if you have large bags think twice about this hotel. The stairs are narrow with square corners. I had a back pack, so I had no problem.
The staff needs more training in service standards. I gave up on breakfast despite only three other people in the (stylish) breakfast room. They had two women working in the kitchen, and the morning desk clerk was helping some, but still I couldn't get my coffee until my breakfast was ready, and that didn't happen till a couple nearby got totally served and seconds on coffee. They need to be trained on service expectations, or keep a coffee pot in the room for self service.
