Casa Amarilla -Jungle Home with Ocean Views - as seen in 'Easy Living' magazine!

This 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath home sleeps 7 comfortably with A/C in each bedroom, walk-in closets, large eat-in kitchen with all the essentials, and a huge terrace with hammocks, table and chairs, and rockers to enjoy the amazing views of the Gulfo Dulce and surrounding jungle wildlife. About 15 minutes from secluded black sand beaches, restaurants and shopping. The bustling surf town of Pavones is just 25 minutes' drive. Included with your stay is a weekly cleaning service and Property Manager, who lives next door, and can help you find all the local tours, shops, restaurants and fun hotspots in town. Read on for a true understanding of what life is like in a small town at the end of a Costa Rican dirt road...

The bay of Pavones is one of the few truly unspoiled corners of paradise left in Costa Rica where endangered monkeys lunch in fruit trees at the side of the road, scarlet macaws squawk overhead and giant dazzling blue butterflies flap by. Amidst this beauty is where you'll find Finca Estrella and her two rental houses, Casa Amarilla being the most stunning. The neighbors are all wonderful friendly Ticos (Costa Ricans) so, if you want to absorb the real Costa Rican culture, this is the place to stay. Finca Estrella is only minutes from beautiful beaches, refreshing rivers and the local surf breaks.

Awaiting you at Casa Amarilla are granite kitchen counter-tops, jungle door-carvings, comfortable sofas and mattresses, wrap-around wooden terrace with hammocks and rocking chairs for breath-taking views/stunning sunsets or stargazing - everything you need to have a fantastic vacation.

The beaches are wild and stunning, the perfect kind for beach-combing, and the warm waters are fantastic for surfing (rent a board nearby) and boogie boarding. Or, if you fancy something different, follow dolphins watching silvery fish jumping in the waves while you stand-up paddleboard in the perfect water at Pilon. If you prefer to stay on the sand then there are a myriad of beautiful seeds to find, kite-surfers to admire, seabirds by the dozen. Pick up fish for the grill on the way home from the fishermen, most likely your only companions on the endless stretch of perfect sand. Local fishermen will happily oblige if you want to join them in their boats to catch some mackerel, sea bass, snook (robalo), dorado (mahi-mahi) or red snapper. For the more adventurous, inshore or offshore sportfishing can be arranged with Zancudo Lodge or the marinas of Golfito. Boat trips can also be arranged for visits to the Osa Peninsula, the Orchid Gardens, Wild Animal Refuge, Zipline Canopy Tours or Kayaking in the Rio Coto (River) - whales, dolphins and turtles are often spotted from the boats. You can even waterski and kite-surf!

Trek with our guys, Freddy and Enrique, around the extensive finca bird/butterfly/wildlife watching amongst the myriad of exotic flowers and fruit trees - pineapples, mangoes, watermelons, papayas, cashews, a wonderful type of lychee, coconuts, guavas, cacao (yes, you can make chocolate!), ice cream beans, oranges, lemons, and grapefruit all grow on the finca. Or head to the local waterfalls - walk or take the horses - and lunch in the cool shade on mossy logs before taking the plunge and clambering up the rocks to stand under the waterfalls' refreshing torrent. The 'pozo' - swimming hole - at the Cuervito River is a must on a hot day. Jump off rocks or fallen logs and relax in perfect surroundings listening to your jungle 'music'. Gold has been found in the local rivers so let the guys know if you would like to try your hand at gold-panning.

On 'rest' days, the hammocks by the beautiful 18m swimming pool will be waiting for you. Swing serenely listening to the toucans, clicking butterflies, the buzzing of hummingbirds' wings, the parrots' chatter or other exotic birds (over 200 kinds have been spotted) and Freddy or Enrique will gently nudge you when the monkeys/sloths/anything else you would like to see is around. If you fancy being 'arty' you can use the 'house-paints' and decorate the fruits of your beach-combing labors - ornate seeds, smooth stones or even discarded flip-flops or, let Grace paint jungle flowers on your toe-nails so you can take a bit of your vacation home with you......

The water spouts from passing whales have been spotted from the finca - the gulf teems with sea life, so always keep a lookout.

Gorgeous Hideaway in the Costa Rican jungle
We could not possibly say enough about how much we enjoyed staying at Casa Amarilla. Nestled in the hills above Pavones Bay, this remote location is a must for wildlife enthusiasts and travelers alike. The absolute peace and beauty of this property cannot be understated. Take the advice of getting a 4-wheel drive car, it was a necessity on the steep hills. And bring your binoculars for the birds, butterflies, monkeys, and lizards you can expect to see. The caretaker, Freddy, is incredibly friendly and helpful for anything you may need or questions you have. While the pool was unfortunately out of order during our stay, we made several day trips into Pavones to enjoy the black sand beaches and boogie board the legendary waves. We also had local Enrique take us on a waterfall hike that was otherworldly. The local turtle conservation project was another highlight, and we we able to observe hatchlings released into the ocean. The cuisine of the area is delectable and when we wanted to stay in, the large kitchen is a chef's dream. Many local supermarkets have a good variety of meats, produce, and other food staples. If you prefer to travel away from the large touristy areas and have an adventurous soul, Pavones is a wonderful place. Casa Amarilla felt like home.

Amazing location
The property is located in a lush jungle, surrounded by fruit trees, wild life and amazing views. The house was once gorgeous, but it was neglected for way too long and it shows. The AC in 1 of the 2 BR stopped working long time ago, the second bathroom was locked because it was broken and the main bathroom had the toilet blocked and very dirty at our arrival. There were none of the hammocks featured on the photos available at the property. The dishwasher is broken as well. Worst part was the terrible smell we had in the 2 smaller bedrooms, which took us 2 days to figure out where it was coming from: a bat family living in the attic right above the bedrooms, so most probably the urine infested the ceiling. The pool was gorgeous and we spent a lot of time over there. Overall, the listing was quite inaccurate which is not fair as we felt robbed. The good news is that it seems that renovation work is planned in the near future, so hopefully the following renters will be better served.

Hidden gem
I think it was the most scenic place we have ever stayed at in Costa Rica. The house is spacious and has a great style to it. The patio is facing the ocean; every morning and evening you can sit and contemplate all the beauty that surrounds the property. It was such a terrific experience for us and our kids - we saw all kinds of animals and birds right at the house. I cant recommend this place enough for people who enjoy nature and would like to experience it in its original state. The property is close to Pilon and Pavones and all the restaurants and attractions the area has.

Great view
Commanding view from the top of the ridge with great bird watching opportunities. Modern-ish spacious kitchen and bath. The road to get there is a little beat-up but that’s Costa Rica.

Jungle house, pool down the road a bit
We stayed a week here. The road requires a 4x4. The pool is a short walk down the road but it’s lovely. The house is quite comfortable with superb wildlife viewing off the deck. We were visited by toucans and scarlet macaws every morning, and squirrel monkeys and capuchins also visited. There were a couple of green dart frogs just off the deck. Lots of house geckos and a few other indoor fauna but we find that you often get that in jungle houses! It’s about a 10 minute drive on a rough road from the 611 road. The nearest market is on the way to Pavones, about 25 min drive. If you’re going out for dinner go to Gabby’s place, about 100m towards Pavones from the above mentioned supermarket, awesome food and super atmosphere. Freddy the local house caretaker was excellent.

Pavones 2022
I rent a different house almost every year in Pavones. This house was spacious with an amazing view if the peninsula, a short walk to the largest pool I’ve seen down there with occasional Cappuchin monkey and Macaw sightings. Freddy the groundskeeper was very nice and helpful.

Remote Jungle House
We had a great time during our stay. As long as your expectations are tempered and realistic, this is a great property. It is up on the side of the mountain overlooking the ocean. Great balcony to hang out on in the morning and evenings with amazing flora and fauna EVERYWHERE! The pool was great to use in the late morning and afternoon and the beach and restaurants were within a 15 minute drive. The host is great and set us up with a two hour horse riding tour down at the beach. We will be back!

"Paradise Found"
My wife and I stayed at Casa Amarilla for the month of February and the first few days of March, 2022. This was our 5th visit to Costa Rica & Panama, and our very best and favourite experience ever! The sights, sounds and fragrances of the rainforest was breathtaking. .The locals are so friendly, and the few tourists, as well. Are preparing to book more time at Casa Amarilla next year As we said, truly "PARADISE FOUND"

Truly Paradise
This is a very remote property. Quiet and private. Birds, gorgeous sunsets. Stunning view. The kitchen was very well equipped and that was great because we prepared most of our meals here. We were lucky to find and stay in this property. The owner was very helpful and responsive. Freddy, who takes care of the property (and guests) way a joy to be around and so helpful. We spent most of our thin sitting on the huge deck watching and listening to the wildlife. Could not have had a more relaxing and special experience.

Jungle home in paradise
We found this glorious place tucked in the jungle above Pavones purely by chance and spent a month there with our kids to get off the grid and relax. This is exactly the place to do that! There is nothing like the mornings on this patio or the sunsets over the bay. We’d sit out and birdwatch every morning. The toucans were everywhere, the parrots are always chattering and the macaws - a pair of two Scarlett ones but at times as many as 6 would sit right in the trees by the house for an hour at a time. Freddy, the Finca manager is phenomenal. From his warm greeting to the minute we left, Freddy made sure we were taken care of. His advanced knowledge of this jungle is something to tap into for sure and if he doesn’t hve access to some thing, he knows someone that does! He is funny and engaging and I highly recommend taking him up on his offer of a hike to the river. The house is comfortable. The ac units are a must have for the nights but all in all we found the weather to be very pleasant. The house has a plethora of books for the reading enthusiast as well as hammocks on the porch to do so. Laundry is available in the garage next to the house and is simple to take care of. Kitchen is well stocked for a family of 6. The road to the house requires a 4x4 even though we didn’t have one and managed for a month, I’d highly recommend. Crispin’s communication and hospitality was exceptional. You can book in confidence that you are in great hands! We will return to Casa Amarilla. A piece of our hearts are there.

I found my huge tropical deck with panoramic views to enjoy the day long bird watching. I was able to use my scope, watch countless different types of birds, good access, single story, and huge pool to enjoy. Best jungle experience yet.

Spectacular views, lots of natural wildlife... but home has been neglected.
The home offers beautiful views of the tropical hills & valleys, with the gulf in the background. We saw squirrel monkeys, capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, tucans & scarlet macaws daily, as we hiked trails near the home. The house itself has been neglected. Only one of the two bathrooms was functioning for our entire stay. The air conditioning in the largest bedroom didn’t work for our entire stay. There was severe termite damage in the master bedroom closet, a bad ant problem in the kitchen, and many wasp nests outside, under the deck roof. The caretaker, Freddy was very friendly and helpful, but seemed to have his hands full with maintence of the pool and multiple homes. We’ve visited Costa Rica many times, and understand the challenges associated with managing property in a tropical environment - the home isn’t receiving regular maintenance. Considering all of the things that didn’t work as they should - the rental was overpriced.

Case Amarilla
We absolutely loved it. We stayed for a month and have already made bookings for 2019. The views from the large covered veranda looking out across the rain forested hills to the ocean and beaches were absolutely gorgeous. Lots of colourful birds and butterflies. We often heard, but did not see howler and squirrel monkeys. The house was larger and more luxurious than we had anticipated base on the pictures in the VRBO website. The 2 km road to the house is a bit of a challenge, so a 4x4 vehicle is definitely recommended. The pool is large and beautifully located amongst tropical plants and flowers. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful.

The best option for family holidays with kids. Very nice and spacious house generously equipped.
Beautiful views as announced, plenty of wild life and a couple of pets around, a big swimming pool enjoyable anytime. The person in charge is efficient and helpful. It's a 30 minutes away from the beach, there is a couple of restaurants at the same distance, a 4x4 is needed. A visit to Golfito (45 min drive) and Paso Canoas (an hour drive) is recomendable. It is going to be our favourite place to stay with friends or family in this part of the country. Don't expect to see lots of tourists or exciting night life in the coast villages. It is easy to buy fresh fish and seafood. During national holidays the beaches are full with local people otherwise almost empty.

Wonderful vacation
Dave and I stayed at Casa Amarillo from Jan. 15-23. What a lovely time of year to be in the jungle. We completely enjoyed our stay, and would like to pass on to anyone reading this that this is a beautiful home. We enjoyed every afternoon watching the sunset from the spectacular deck. We loved our morning walks through the finca. Freddy the caretaker is great. He was there checking on us each day, and showed us sloth, toucan, and even a group of spider monkeys. We met some of the local people during our stay, and must say that Costa Rica and its people seem warm and welcoming. I would absolutely stay here again.
