Good location. A bit pricey. Expensive cocktails. Comfortable mattress. The shampoo/conditioner/shower gel bracket fell off the wall because it was only caulked in place - not mechanically fastened. Cheap!

Excellent hotel and location. Gave 4 stars for cleanliness due to finding a dirty ear swab in the bathroom and want super clean. Also found a pendant in the bed that didn’t belong to us which was bizarre. Linens seemed clean. Maybe the cleaning staff lost it while changing the sheets. Otherwise - wonderful!

Best views in Pittsburgh!
We booked the Oaklander for a Pitt graduation. I’ll start with the positives, the location was convenient, able to walk to several places, including Phipps and the graduation. The staff were all friendly but the room was just ok. We didn’t spend a lot of time there, but the view was awful and at times awkward. We had some minor issues with toilet paper roll being broken and I also found the linens to be uncomfortable. They were rough and scratchy but perhaps that’s part of a spa experience and exfoliation. IMO I feel like the hotel is overpriced and there are several other nearby hotels that have larger rooms and better views & comfort. I guess if you spurge for the Oaklander, spend the extra on the upgraded rooms with a view.

The toilet did not work when we arrived. Then we discovered that the thermostat did not work either. The maintenance guy inspected the unit and said that he could not fix it in the state it was in. I got overheated at night because we were unable to lower the room temperature at night for sleeping. We also had to track down staff to get hand soap because there was none. Finally, the remote control for the TV did not work well because someone put black tape over the receiver on the TV. It was very frustrating to have so many things wrong with the room.

We checked in really late at night after a long day of driving. The bed didn't have a fitted sheet or a mattress pad, it's just a flat sheet, which is kind of gross because it moved around. You could see the pattern of the mattress through the sheet. The sheets had some small holes. We went to be anyway exhausted, one of us had a conference the next day. In the morning, we saw the shower heads were super crusty with gunk, and there was mold on the ceiling in the shower area. There's also staining around the sink and toilet. I assume all the rooms are in this level of disrepair, these things are not a one off. It's less than I would not expect it in a 4 star hotel. We didn't want the burden of moving rooms during the packed conference, I just don't think I should have to pay $350 a night for a room that isn't ever deep cleaned. When we got home, I emailed the hotel and sent pictures. Twice. I never got a reply. Skip this hotel. It's easy to walk to campus and museums and such, but a waste of money for maintenance and responses. A lot of hotels around, save your money.
