Nice area , friendly staff, but the room was dirty, never cleaned the floors not even the bathroom, requested 3 times never send the cleaning staff. Cleaning persons gladly take your tip but never clean, did not fill the fridge with water or anything else!

Love this property, we have been 7 times, but things are getting run down unfortunately. Our room this last visit was musty and caused the linens to have a gross smell. Food quality has dropped a bit. Might not return next year.

The hotel is located within the walking distance of the Xcaret park and you can dip in and out of Xcaret during the day, helps save some money on meals! The hotel grounds are fantastic, nice little beach, luscious jungles and plenty of animals. Plus some mayan ruins! The signs around the hotel request that guests so not feed the animals, but I've seen people feed monkeys from their balconies. Really sad and danger to animals, but there is no way the hotel staff can control every situation. We found the buffets had a good range of food, and the drinks options are plentiful. Staff are absolutely amazing and try their best to make sure your stay is as comfortable as can be. The rooms are a bit dated and need improvements (like getting rid of the damp smell!), but nothing too major.

Location was great. Nice beach. Animals around resort was unique. What we didn’t like is the food options. Couldn’t accommodate for food allergies so my wife ate fruit everyday. Check-in was horrible. long flight delayed and showed to hotel around 10. Had to wait till 3 pm to get room. Also room was dirty. Hair on bed and pillows. Room just didn’t seem like they cleaned it. After mention to the cleaning staff. They seemed bothered because we mention how unhappy we were with the room. Also missing towels. Hotel said there were no more rooms available, but when we received our bands for the room, the group next to me were having their room changed. Also, the kept mentioning we shouldn’t have booked through Expedia if we were expected to get vip service. Best time we had was away from the resort. Going into town and enjoying real food.

We really enjoyed our stay here! The beach access is beautiful and having pool access as well made it easy for our family to enjoy. The food was great and the staff was always so kind and helpful. Lots of walking involved so make sure to bring some comfy sandals.

We absolutely loved our stay at Occidental! The property is stunning, nestled in a lush jungle setting with plenty of animals to enjoy—it truly felt like a tropical escape. The location was perfect for our trip, especially with Xcaret just a stone’s throw away. Access to the park was incredibly convenient, and we appreciated being able to return to our room to freshen up after water activities. It also saved us money on food since we could easily dine at the hotel. Our room exceeded expectations—it was spacious, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and all the amenities we needed were thoughtfully provided. However, there were a couple of downsides. The salespeople for the vacation club were a bit too pushy, and their location downstairs made them unavoidable. Additionally, the hotel doesn’t offer to-go food options, which isn’t ideal for families with young kids. Having that flexibility would have made our stay even better. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we’d gladly return—just with a little heads-up about these minor drawbacks!

The rooms smelled moldy and humid. The lamp in my room had black dark spots obviously from mold. My husband and I couldn’t sleep the first night due to the moldy smell. The sheets on the bed felt moistened due the humidity. When we asked the staff to do something they say they were going to refresh the room by mopping it with some type of floor cleaner that it didn’t get rid of the moldy smell. All our clothes smell moldy even the unused. Part of the bed was like leather, and it did smell terrible like mold. Food was not the best either. I would not recommend this hotel specially if you suffer from respiratory problems.
