Graduation Celebration
We loved the seclusion and privacy of this property. The house is well maintained and updated. Beautiful beach with good snorkeling. Appreciated the water cooler and high-end appliances. Enjoyed dinners at Hidden Treasures and Greenwood Resort. Everyone on the island was kind and helpful. We rented a car through Alvernia and it was a positive experience. Beds were comfy and it was nice to have the air conditioning. Raj was always responsive and helpful with all our questions and concerns. We enjoyed the use of the kayak and found a nearby cave that was fun to explore. Saw lots of turtles, rays, and beautiful fish while snorkeling. We hope to return!

Great location
We loved staying here. It was very private and quiet. Aside from some minor maintenance issues the house was well appointed and clean. We really enjoyed having the beach right outside of the back door.

Great location
House in excellent condition. Beach private and very nice. Location great in the day, at sunset and at night. At night you have very low ambient light which makes great star gazing. The viewing platform at the west end of the beach allows you to watch the sunset. On the negative side, the reef like many these days is in poor condition. However there are some heathy areas and some fish mostly off of the first house to the east. Internet a little slow for ip tv. I am still rating the house as a 5 because the good out ways the small issues and Raj was very helpful

Beach paradise off the beaten path
If you are willing to be away from everyone and cook your own meals this home is a slice of heaven. We never saw anyone on the beach and had the whole place to ourselves. It’s fairly remote so not for all travelers but we will go back and willing to bring the whole family. Meal planning is necessary as stores are far away and options limited but if you want blue water that is crystal clear and sand that feels like butter this is your place! Can’t wait to go back. The host and at location were great help

Trip of a Lifetime
Trip of a lifetime for me and my family! We have five kids ranging from age 2 up to 15 and being steps away from the turquoise water was absolutely dreamy! There’s superb snorkeling, just yards into the water. We found a variety of fish and conch each day. My kids loved fishing from the kayaks and checking out look out point . The breeze kept bugs at bay for the most part and the house had everything you could possibly need for the family. Raj has been the most communicative host we’ve ever had, and had fantastic recommendations for a rental car and fishing charter. Cat Island gave us options for a quiet and true Bahama vacation without the business of some of the more touristy/ built-up islands. Captain Carlton took us to a few snorkeling areas, found us an excellent spot where we caught snapper that he cooked for us for lunch and we even had a barracuda catch near the end of our day. He was friendly and eager to show my kids the fishing ropes. The people of Cat Island are some of the nicest we’ve experienced in the Bahamas. We took a day trip and flew over to Staniel Cay which was only 20 minutes. We went to a few resorts for the day like Beachwood and Hawks Nest where they were lots of fun activities to do while grabbing lunch. We are already planning our next trip back!

Family Vacation to Casa Bella
Overall the house was fantastic and very well-appointed. The kitchen had every appliance and amenity that we could ever need. Two of the three bedrooms had beautiful ocean views and all the beds were comfortable. Both bathrooms were spacious, clean and modern. The grounds around the house were fascinating and we loved walking to the little lookout hut and listening to the crabs scurrying away in the brush. The beach right outside is beautiful and makes for lovely long walks. (Not good for snorkeling, and the waves were choppy for most of our stay.) We arrived after some major storms that had apparently flooded the roads and created many potholes so driving back and forth to the busier parts of the island was time-consuming. Many of the nearby restaurants seemed closed much of the time, the exceptions being Sweet Tamarind and the Greenwood Resort. Both were delicious and the hosts were entertaining. Definitely have lunch or dinner at Hidden Treasurers and buy bread and jam at Olive’s Bakery, both about 30 minutes north in the New Bight area. Raj provides a great notebook in the house with lots of information about visiting sites on the island, but you’ll need to make sure you can get to them. Be sure to rent a high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle if you want to get to the windward beaches on the island as we couldn’t get there in our regular SUV rental due to mud and road conditions. The people on Cat Island are the most friendly we have ever met in the Caribbean.

So many amazing features I can’t list them all. This place is a tropical paradise. Secluded, you have the entire beach to yourself, plus a private overlook pavilion. Plenty of places to go see but no need to leave this property. It includes everything you need to snorkel or kayak. Amazing reefs right out from to keep you busy snorkeling your entire stay. Plenty of chairs for the beach, and even includes a large gasgrill

Remote Island adventure
This was our first visit to the Bahamas. We were looking for a private relaxing time with a beautiful beach. This was it. The owner "Raj" was beyond compare in how eager and helpful he was to make our stay enjoyable. The caretakers were respectful and helpful as well. We've booked with Raj for six weeks next year. Should tell how much we liked it.

Almost Paradise
We stayed @Almost Paradise in early February 2023 for 10 days. It truly is a beautiful place (house, beach, etc). The people of Cat Island are the most friendly people we have met-be sure to visit the Cultural Village (where it says Fish Fry on the map). Wonderful food - Blue Waters Restaurant is outstanding, Duke's Conch Shake is a hoot-be sure to just stop in and have a Kalik with Duke. Bought bread from Olive's (get the cinnamon bread & make french toast!!!). Bought liquor from 700 Spirits. When they say the ferry comes in with food on Thursday and Sunday's-they aren't joking...so much food (including fresh produce), most of the meat is frozen. Hidden Treasures we almost didn't eat at because it wasn't on the water :(, but apparently their structure had a fire so they had to move to another location. Don't let the location (right on the main (only) road) deter you. Wonderful mahi mahi tacos, excellent conch, the most AMAZING pina coladas (he will ask if you want spirits in them-is there another way to have a pina colada??). They are almost like eating "adult" ice cream - so smooth! Alvernia's food market has wonderful people working there. We stopped at Gilbert's (they have a lot more food, etc) but found whomever was working behind the counter to not be the most friendly/helpful person (the only person on the island that we encountered). We had lunch at Fernandez Bay Resort, very underwhelming. Beach is beautiful, food not so much. Be sure to check out ALL of the beaches on the island. McQueens is beyond anything that I could ever imagine. Saw a HUGE sting ray. Hawks Nest is cool-a long drive, but their restaurant had wonderful food (that wasn't fried which a lot of the food on the island is fried). The only reason that I didn't give Almost Paradise a 5 star is that it's a LONG drive (about 25 - 30 minutes). If you are unfamiliar with Cat Island most of the restaurants & grocery stores are in the "Old Bight" area so when you decide to go to town, make it worth your while. Pick up groceries (maybe plan it when the ferry has come in), go to lunch, explore some new beaches. We went to town way to frequently for my liking, but we had 9 days and it was sunny all the time so I could still sit out by the amazing beach, soak up the sun, have wonderful cocktails and not see ANYONE for the entire 9 days. Oh wait, we saw 1person & he was visiting from Ireland. And be sure to stop @Mary's Crab Shack (right before you get to the house)

This ocean/beachfront property could not be more Beautifully situated.
This home has a lovely, open layout & the kitchen has every appliance one could ever want to use, and, has a center island for family/friends to gather around. The bedrooms are spacious & the beds are super comfortable. The best part of this property is its “back yard”……..beach sand right from the house on down to the lapping waves…….and beautiful stretches of shore for walking along…….it is quite magical. I am giving the “clean” aspect a 3 because the host’s maid quit sometime before our arrival & things had not been tended to. BUT, the host did apologize & refunded us the prepaid cleaning fee, as well, was always totally responsive to a few issues that came up during our stay. We can certainly recommend this property & hope that you will enjoy this home, the island’s beauty, & the friendly people as much as we did. Thank you, Raj!

Nov - Dec Review
We stayed for about 10 days during the end of November going into December. The pictures of the house and property are about accurate. Just a few short steps to the beautiful secluded beach. In our stay we only saw two people and a dog kayak by while we were on the beach. Please do not expect someone to clean the seaweed from the beach (noted in other reviews). The seaweed washes up and is filled with bugs and is very heavy to move. Raja did reimburse us $200.00 for this, since we ventured off to other beaches. I’m not sure if someone had access to the property after the last rental because the kitchen and bathrooms were not cleaned (burnt food in toaster oven, bar of soap on floor of both showers, toilets were not cleaned) In the book on the counter there mentions two wifi routers… there are not two wifi routers one is for the camera system Arlos. I did unplug that and put that in the cabinet in the laundry room. The washing machine was extremely off balance. The wifi is DSL which goes on and off all the time so that means no tv as well. They provide 2 or 3 sets of snorkel gear. There are 3 beach chairs but two were rusted and broke (salt air ruins everything quickly). There is one two person kayak. There are the nasty little No See Ums but the locals will tell you to start a fire cut a coconut in half and throw in the fire to help keep them away. Now for the island of Cat…. If you want beautiful private untouched beaches then this is the place for you. We hardly saw anyone on any of the beaches. The grocery stores are more expensive than the states because they have to ship everything in. Albernia you can pick up your groceries and rental car… the nicest people! We ate at Hidden Treasures and that was fabulous… get the pina colada with spirits yum!!! If you want night life and tons of people you are in the wrong place. If you want to decompress and enjoy the beautiful Caribbean water than this is the place for you!

Amazing vacation and villa
We had a perfect stay at Almost Paradise. The villa was extremely modern and came equipped with everything you could need and more. The grocery store was 20mins away and had all a North American brands and selection, although could sometimes be pricey. We ate at several restaurants but Hidden Treasures and Blue Bird were the best. Both were fabulous. The beach and water are perfect. We visited all the different beaches on the island. Although the weather called for rain every day, it only rained about 3 times for about 5 mins. Bring bug spray. The bugs are very bad at night. Also bring sun screen and Aloe/After Sun because they don’t sell it on the island. Raj was such an amazing host. Anytime we needed to contact him with a question, he responded within minutes. He knows everyone on the island and helped us make connections. Overall, we had a fabulous time and would highly recommend Almost Paradise and Cat Island.

Raj's place is so clean and nice and the beach is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! My husband and I spent a wonderful 10 days enjoying laying on the beach, kayaking, and snorkeling. Spectacularly beautiful place, amateur host...
We have traveled a lot and this is an amazingly beautiful place, comfortable, private, just perfect in many ways. We had some problems with our host Monraaj (Raj) and that is why we didn't give high ratings all around. He was sometimes unresponsive to emails before the trip, but the biggest problem was when the water tank ran empty early Sunday morning which was our last full day there. Raj was in Canada with no one on Cat Island designated to support us. We were left calling all over to get water delivered while the pump was potentially burning out and finally found out where the back up water guy lived, drove to his place, and confirmed that they could deliver, and finally water was delivered shortly before sunset. Later Raj admitted that he was supposed to have had the tank filled before leaving the island, but didn't follow thru to make sure it was done or warn us that we might run out. After we had driven to the water guy's house Raj finally got back to us that he had made arrangements for the water delivery earlier in the day, but hadn't let us know that he had, which would have prevented us from having to go find the water guy's house when he wasn't returning our phone calls. Then when I messaged Raj that I was unhappy about having such a stressful last day of vacation, he replied via WhatsApp, "This is Cat Island, it's not like America where everything is available on demand. That's just how things are on remote islands." That felt pretty rude to hear from our host considering that water is critical on an island. We've traveled extensively on remote islands and Third World destinations, but when we are staying in a place that costs around $500 a day (including all the taxes and fees), we expect our host to be professional, responsive and kind. I hope he learns from this experience and takes better care his next guests. All in all, Almost Paradise is just that, a beautiful place to play and relax. We'd return in a heart beat!

Paradise Indeed! This house has it all, with a truly awesome host to boot!
This property is super secluded and the beach has amazing breezes which really helps keep you cool. There is a bunch of coral right in front of the house which allows for some fun snorkeling and the gazebo is great for star gazing. The house itself is beautiful and has all the conveniences you would want. Raj is a fantastic host, he went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed.
