The house and rooms are clean and stunning. The furnishings are comfortable, and the decor hosts a mix of history and modern appeal.
We stayed in the Penthouse, which is the entire attic. The renovation of this room made it cozy and spacious with more of a loft-like feel. There is a separate reading area by the window and a bookshelf full of texts with interesting history of the home and surrounding area. There were water and treats to welcome us, but there is a pantry on the ground floor with snacks and drinks to restock. The bed was comfortable and high off of the floor. The bathroom was very spacious with a double vanity sink, large dual head shower, and soaking tub. There are complimentary lavender soap bars and bath-bombs. For us, the location was ideal because it is extremely walkable to the busier locations in Portsmouth for dining, bars, and shops, yet Court St. was quiet with minimal traffic. The parking behind the inn is tight, but at least it’s included, and that is rare in this busy area. We were in Portsmouth to celebrate my husband’s 40th, so we had friends staying in two other rooms. The first (superior suite) and second floor (deluxe suite) rooms have more historical touches but were still tastefully modernized.
The only concern we have from our stay are issue we had with the showers and lack of hot, hot water one might expect at a luxury inn, this needs to be adjusted. The coded entry worked well but some guests were locked out in the AM too early.
