Whale watcher's delight! Spacious penthouse, views

Enhanced COVID cleaning and disinfecting procedures for every check-in.

This spacious top floor condo in the upscale Puu Poa complex on the north shore of beautiful Kauai is located directly next door to the Princeville St Regis Hotel. You'll love the newly renovated oceanfront pool! Also available onsite are tennis courts, pickleball court, and a path to Hideaways Beach. (Note that this beach path is not for the faint of heart. It's steep and often muddy. We recommend the brief stroll next door to the beach in front of the St Regis. Easy!) This Kauai vacation rental is the perfect place to find your own paradise.

At Puu Poa 405 you'll find a very large oceanfront lanai, furnished with a shaded dining set and your own personal barbecue grill. The views are unobstructed, panoramic, and oceanfront. The master bedroom opens onto a second covered atrium-style lanai, perfect for viewing migrating whales, dolphins at play, or passing ships, even if it's raining and blustery outside. For privacy, the sunroom may be closed off from the bedroom with a set of sliding louver if you've got children using the two day beds in the atrium You'll love the view from the king bed in the very spacious master can enjoy the view without even having to get up. The adjacent master bathroom is very large and elegantly remodeled, with a generously sized walk-in shower and jetted tub. The guest bedroom is furnished with a queen bed. Inside the guest bathroom you will also find a washer and dryer.

The living room is comfortably furnished with a large sectional sofa, 55” flat screen TV with DVD, an there's even a telescope for close-up whale spotting or watching the surfers. Directly behind the living room, with equally dramatic oceanfront views thanks to the open floor plan, is a fully equipped kitchen with granite counter tops, a cook top counter island, electric oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, cookware and dishes, blender, coffee maker, and toaster.

As with most homes on Kauai, this vacation rental is NOT air conditioned.

Although this home has internet, the speed and reliability cannot be guaranteed due to the remote location and the service being provided by a third-party.

Great place to stay
Everything was great as usual- the penthouse views are amazing, the condo is roomy and comfy - kitchen supplies are great and a good selection of games and books are available. The beach chairs were very much appreciated - but we couldn't find beach towels in the same place, and because they didn't look like traditional beach towels, we didn't find them for a day or so until the owner told us where to find them and what they looked like. Our only other inconvenience was difficulty with remotes and accessing cable channels. The instructions provided were inaccurate and not sufficient. We muddled our way through and mostly ended up watching Prime instead. Overall a great place to stay and we highly recommend it!

In need of updating and repairs
Fortunately, this was not the first time we were on Kauai (this was our 6th time), so we were not really upset when it absolutely poured rain (like I have never seen before) for six days and six nights - constantly. We had previously done all that Kauai had to offer. If we had not, this would have been a wasted stay. I am not exaggerating. Accordingly, we could not sit out on the beautiful lanai that overlooked the ocean. We could, however, hear the ocean. We absolutely froze the first few nights in the condo as many windows (eight) facing the ocean would not close. The main bedroom television did not work and four days after we reported it, someone finally showed up and said we needed a new cable box. We did not receive one during our stay. Other issues were similarly not addressed until the fourth day of our six day stay. "Property management" was severley lacking. The main bathroom sink faucet sprayed water everywhere. The locks did not work on either the lanai screen or sliding door. The kitchen was lacking in utensils and the bath towels were only average. The owners obviously do not trust renters with nicer things. We also stayed in a condo on Maui and a house on Oahu on this trip and this condo was the worst in terms of thinking of items renters may need or enjoy and in terms of quality. While this condo could be a wonderful place to stay, it needs updating, repairs (rusted mirrors, one large area of the floor was duct taped) and nicer accoutrements.

But for a clothes dryer,,,
This was our 5th stay in a Puu Poa condo, so we love the location on a bluff overlooking the ocean. We even saw whales the first 3 days! This condo is a little tired compared to others we’ve stayed in. What makes the location special is also very hard on the property, so you have window and door issues from corrosion. Our grandkids loved the pool and Hideaways Beach down the bluff from the condo. Minor issues were 2 non-working toasters (property managers got us a new one in a couple of days) and a barely functional coffee maker. The real bummer was the non-working clothes dryer which was not fixed until the last day of a 10 day stay. This was a big inconvenience.

View? yes. Big? yes. Needs TLC? Very yes.
The ocean view is unbeatable. Likely the best on Kauai's North Coast. The place is large, too. Lots of room to move around. However, the place doesn't look changed since the 80s and there are a number of deferred maintenance issues: weeds on the lanai, peeling paint, warped floors, rusting bathroom fixtures, etc. We realize that many adjacent condos go for much more pet night (some over 2x), but a little TLC wouldn't cost too much and would go a long way to make the unit considerably more comfortable.

Spacious condo with amazing views!
We enjoyed staying here so much. The ocean view was amazing! And the condo was clean and spacious with a large kitchen, which was very nice. There's a long daybed in front of the windows in the den where I took a nap everyday, while enjoying the ocean breeze. There are TWO beach paths, only a 3 minute walk away that take you to beautiful gorgeous beaches. My wife and I loved it here and would highly recommend this condo if you are visiting the Princeville/Hanalei area.

Two thumbs up for Puu Poa
Condo was clean, spacious, stocked well with basic amenities, and one incredible view. Walking distance to Hideaway Beach (one of our favorites), Queens Bath, and Puu Poa Beach. Local pizza and salad joint also a short walk, and pizza was great. Would most definitely stay here again.

Property description should be updated
This was a much anticipated trip to celebrate retirement. We were looking for views, sounds of the ocean and a peaceful stay. The view did not disappoint and the pool area and grounds were nicely maintained. The kitchen was reasonably well-appointed. Pros: Location and views are outstanding. The unit is on the top floor and there are glimpses of Bali Hai from the balcony. The complex was quiet at night. Noise level from construction was high during the day, however. Amenities were mostly sufficient, although we had to purchase hand soap and tissue. It would also have been nice to have access to a few cleaning products in order to keep things tidy. Cons: -Antiquated lockbox - difficult to use. -Check-in was 3:00 and when I arrived at 4:30, the cleaning crew had just arrived. I was told to return after 5:30. After a 6+ hour flight with groceries to unload, this was very inconvenient. The Property Mgr. has responded to this complaint. -General Maintenance: Windowsills and patio furniture were not cleaned. One of the overhead fans was broken, as was a window onto the balcony and the lock on the sliding glass door. -Construction: Noisy during the day, starting quite early. -Important: While the St. Regis Hotel is referenced several times (beach access/amenities) it is actually a large demolition site. There are no services available and beach ingress/egress is risky. The Westin does have a restaurant, but it is 1.5 miles away near the entrance of Princeville.

Beautiful Home and view
We enjoyed our time here! Beautiful home, view, and area! The constant sounds of the ocean waves are missed by us all. We did find a couple items from past guests in the master bedroom that would've been spotted during normal cleaning, so maybe some improvement could be made there, but nonetheless a great stay.

Island Paradise
We absolutely loved our time at this rental. Princeville is such a beautiful area (although, very wet). We loved being able to take long walks, snorkel, read at any one of the nearby beaches, etc. Our family of 6 adults was very comfortable since the condo is extremely spacious. We also loved being so near Hanalei. The owners had lists of day trips and lots of activities. We would definitely return!

Hideaways beach retreat
Our family of five had a wonderful stay at Puu Poa 405. Views of the ocean and Makana Peak and best of all- access to Hideaways Beach. It did get a little warm during the day, but we were mostly out exploring the island and it was very comfortable by 5pm and to sleep. The master bedroom king was very cozy. Kitchen stocked with all we needed. Thank you for sharing your home.

Paradise
This condo was perfect for my family of 4. It had more then we expected.. They had a closet full of stuff to take to the beach like chairs, mats, even snorkel gear and defogger. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were nice too. The bathroom had a hair dryer, bandaids and neosporen, which we used! A rack to hang out wet suits to dry. The kitchen was stocked with whatever items we needed to cook plus a small refrigerator for our water bottles. The dishwasher did not work that great but we did let management know. They had TVs in every room(but who needs TVs here?!). They also had the Kauai Revealed book, which is an excellent book that will tell you everything you need to know about your stay and the island. Both the patio and extra room were nice for relaxing, reading, and playing video games for my kids. We enjoyed having dinner outside almost every night and had a fantastic view. Our only complaints were the toilets, they were small and you had to the hold the handle down for a long time( but maybe that’s normal for Kauai?). Hideaway beach was mostly calm and made for fantastic snorkeling, we saw turtles every time. It still is hard work to get down and up from the beach and if it’s raining be sure to wear shoes as it is super slippery. Highly recommend.

Beautiful place! Great location!
Loved how spacious this condo was! We were staying in Hawaii for 12 nights and it was great to spread out for our family of 4 the second half of our vacation. We had a pretty rain filled trip so this helped. We also took advantage of being right next to The Princeville Resort by eating there some evenings and because we scheduled some services at the spa we were able to use their facility. The beds were comfortable, bathrooms beautiful and large, kitchen had everything we needed and it was great that previous guests left some items for other guests that were quite helpful. We enjoyed using the grill on the lanai. The last day we saw a huge group of spinning dolphins go by and the binoculars made it even easier to watch them. We found the adventurous “climb” down the Hide-away beach very memorable since it was so muddy and slippery, thank goodness for the ropes to hang onto!

Wonderful place, wonderful view. Everything was great. Only one issue: could not figure out how to get the tv to work in the small guest bedroom (still wondering if there was a remote control missing...?). And the kitchen was well-stocked EXCEPT no coffee for the first morning (not a big deal at all but just to mention that it would be good to have it as an added luxury). Thankyou!!!

Nice Space - Great View
We stayed here for a week and a half and enjoyed the place - the view is outstanding and this unit is situated on the top floor (stairs are not bad though) and we had plenty of privacy. If you like the Princeville area, you can't get much better than this. The Princeville Resort is a 2 minute walk up the road with great restaurants and live music in the bar. Property management was friendly and proactive upon our checking in, and the unit is well stocked with the basics required as well as starter set of paper products. This is one of the largest condos we've ever stayed in and it was nice to have the space even for just two of us. Unfortunately, we find that even in upscale properties, overdue maintenance is sometimes obvious when you walk in the door - this was one of those. The sunroom blinds were down and not functional, so we were really disappointed that we couldn't enjoy a feature that drew us to this particular unit. Many of the window cranks on the ocean side were not operational and in need of replacement, and most of the wood elements were in need of upgrade/repair due to humidity damage, all of which surprised us given the price point. The beds were not the worst we've slept in, but again, given the price we would have expected good quality mattresses. Overall, however, we enjoyed our stay and the location was spectacular - with repairs made and mattress upgrades, we would stay here again without hesitation!

What a great rental! This is the standard by which we will judge all VRBO properties in the future. The location is unbelievable, the condo is beautiful and the owners spent time and expense to make this a luxury experience. The furniture was thematic throughout creating a great island atmosphere. The decor was tasteful. The kitchen was very well stocked and organized with labels everywhere. The owners truly paid attention to detail. We have stayed in the Puu Poa condos before and there is no better view on the island. We loved falling asleep to the sound of the ocean and waking up to watch the surfers down below. Hideaway beach is a hidden gem at the bottom of the cliff that is my favorite beach on the island. Honestly I can't say enough good about the property. My kids kept asking if we could just buy it and live there forever!
