We stayed at the property jan 4-10, 2025 and there was NO HOT WATER the entire stay. We contacted the front desk 4 separate times and they pretended like they didnt know it was an issue. I was able to speak to the manager one time who also acted like it was being worked on. It was all lies. We met other guests who also had the same issues and were all told different stories. We went back to previous reviews and as early as November 2024, there were reports of no hot water. The hotel staff were nice and I felt badly for them because that situation is beyond their control. The manager started hiding from guests and the front desk was "unable to help". The manager gave every guest a different story to prolong the solution or any compensation so make up for the issues. He did that so that he could come back and say well "you completed your stay so we dont need to compensate you". They overcharged us for the resort fee - it was supposed to be $40 USD and they charged us $190 USD. They said they reversed it on our credit card and they did not. They poorly handled this entire situation from the beginning. Also, there arent enough guests at the hotel to meet their occupancy so they rotate which restaurants are open each night. The property itself is very dark and poorly lit at night. In addition no hot water, the phones in the rooms do not work and half of the outlets in the room didnt work. There is a beach but it is very shallow and is covered in seaweed. Expedia was no help.

No HOT water our whole stay!!! Front desk just gave us the runaround. We paid for a swim up room, it would have been great but the pool was not even close to warm, cold cold So don’t do what we did and pay for something you can’t use.

It’s tough to navigate through the many reviews about this property, but here’s my honest take: Before traveling, I was nervous because the property was impossible to get in touch with. I tried calling and emailing multiple times, but there was no response. This was especially troubling given the number of mixed and negative reviews online. I just wanted to confirm that this was a legitimate place, and the lack of communication didn’t inspire confidence. First, the property itself is beautiful, and the staff are genuinely amazing. They’re doing their best under the circumstances. However, as many have mentioned, the recent change in ownership seems to have left some growing pains, and the new management still has work to do to make this a truly great destination. My biggest issue was the food. The options are extremely limited, and dining at the available restaurants can be a hassle. For example, one evening we arrived at 7 PM, waited until 7:45 PM for a table, and didn’t receive our food until 8:45 PM. Unfortunately, the quality didn’t make up for the wait. While the staff handled complaints graciously, it’s clear that management needs to step up and address these operational challenges. Another concern was the pricing for the New Year’s Eve event. Charging $250 per table seemed excessive given what was offered, leaving some guests disappointed. On the positive side, the pools are fantastic, there are bars conveniently located throughout the property, and the staff’s fr

Stayed 4 nights late Dec. 2024. Overall we enjoyed our stay but a few things really ruined any good review we could give. First, the room phone did not work so it was difficult to contact room service for anything. But more than that, we told the front desk every morning of our stay and nothing was ever done, nor any indication given they even checked on it. Very poor customer experience and we felt ignored. Second, the hotel lost hot water one day of our stay. Cold showers really suck. Again we approached the front desk and were told they were aware and trying to get it fixed. But no proactive communication was given nor any kind of follow up to the guests impacted. Third, the room came with a coffee maker and coffee making supplies. 1 regular 1 decaf. We are big coffee drinkers so we tried to request more coffee and creamer for our stay. Oops no phone… so we again requested from the front desk to deliver more coffee to our room. Nothing was ever done and housekeeping never replaced the coffee and creamer we had consumed from the first evening. On the last evening, we did run into a hotel employee we shared our experience with and she immediately jumped into action and personally delivered coffee to our room. Too bad the front desk staff did not act like this and could really take some lessons from her. The food and restaurant staff were great. The buffet was really tasty and we ate there most of our stay.

The staff at the resort were all fantastic. Friendly and accommodating. The pool was very cold, but you did eventually get used to it once in the pool for a little while. The beach is long but not a lot of space. The ocean water was not the greatest, but this might have been due to the trough weather. It is swimmable for sure, but the flags were red for the entirety of the trip. There was little for kids or teens to do and if you didn't want to sit in the cold pool, there wasn't much else to keep them occupied at all. Water sports on the beach were also limited. I think you could grab a kayak, but you had to really go looking for stuff to do other then the pool. This resort is under new ownership and it appears they are working on getting it up to standards. It was a great stay and it did the trick, but was not worth the price we ended up paying. Borderline 4 star at this time.

So the newly named Palmar Beach Resort and Spa has a ton of potential. The layout of the property is great. We went knowing it was operating on a limited basis as they aren’t fully operational yet. If the new owners are willing to put a decent amount of capex into the pools and rooms, it could be an absolute gem. The beach here is very small, covered in seaweed, and borderline unusable (I don’t think there is any amount to money you could spend to fix this). The best thing about this place was the staff. They were all INCREDIBLE. As it currently stands, this place is good for a budget vacation but has the potential to be to be so much better.

We stayed during Christmas week. The good: We got ocean view room that was very clean spaciouse. Got welcome champagne and allowed early check in. Staff at restaurants and housekeepers were really the best I have ever experienced in all inclusive resorts, everyone was so nice and welcoming. Food at buffet excellent. Kids club awesome -but must book in advance or over capacity every day. Beautiful grounds well maintained good Room service The bad: beach was the most disappointing - full of seaweed literally unswimable and gross although they try cleaning every morning the beaches were trashy all over the area, there were only 2 restaurants open each day with long wait so we did buffets, Starbucks closed, weak entertainment no fun events or animation during the day so good if you want calm quiet resort. No hot water last 2 days and room hot tub was joke no hot water. The pools were too cold in December and swim up rooms are waste of money in cold season as hot tubs outside are not hot same cold pool water. They had the Most overpriced spa I have seen - almost $500 for couple massage quote. Pool tile needs some fixing. Our other family members booked premium 2 bed delux oceanfront suite with butler service and they were told it was double booked and have to stay in 2 separate rooms with teenagers not even next to each other . And they got no welcome champagne and very weak attitude to resolve the issue by front desk. The butler service is useless so don’t bother.

It's a nice resort with good service and staff. The food and drinks were good but to eat at the restaurants, there were always long wait times to get a table and also long wait time to get the food. Beach was full of sea weed, rocky, so we were unable to swim in it. It lacked activities. For example, we wanted to do kayaking but we were o ly able to do it on the last day of our stay and we had to pay. The guy in charge didn’t show up at 9 am (the time he is supposed to), but showed up at 10:30. If you are planning to go relax on the pool, that's a good resort but if you were thinking about doing so activities, it's not. You are really only paying for the room, food, pool, and drinks. The picturrs are not an accurate depiction of the beach and there is little additional fun or events thay are worth the money.

We were not impressed with this resort. Our room smelled like mold. Limited dining areas, we were told many times that waiting list was closed probably caused by limited staff. Very poor or no entertainment. No coffee after 11 am. Definitely not recommended resort.
