Excellent adventure
Martha’s place is a lovely hillside apartment overlooking the city - spacious, high-ceilinged, and an array of windows along the front of the building that wrap around an enclosed patio in one corner, plus the “wow” factor of going to bed at night and waking up in the morning to a panoramic view of the Puerto Vallarta skyline and a mountain range in the background. This is all located in the older part of the city, economically far removed from the glitter and bustle of the city’s Gold Coast. Life is slower here, the streets steep and winding, where you can see an occasional chicken moseying and pecking on a sidewalk, and hear roosters crowing in the morning. No gentrification here. That said, my wife and I never felt unsafe or intimidated. Quite the contrary. Everyone we met was welcoming and kind and helpful. And you get bonus points if you speak Spanish, or just try. I’ve found, and this is true of any country in my experience, folks appreciate the effort, even if you do sound a little dumb. From the front door to the beach is about a 30-minute stroll, but there are so many distractions along the way, be it a flea market, a quaint shop, or the delicious smells of street side cooking, that we never made it in less than an hour. And if you stop for lunch … Our stroll was always a little adventure. We had a delightful time. Martha is a conscientious hostess. Her rapid response to inquiries is truly impressive. You would like it here.
