About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Spacious cozy home, minutes from adventure both in Red River & Taos.

Our mountain getaway is an humble, sweet home that has been in our family for over a decade. Our children and their friends have grown up wintering, summering, adventuring and exploring here. We fell in love with this part of the country and we had to have a tiny little imperfect place here, she is our home away from home. We ADORE her. We have enjoyed sharing this little getaway with our close friends and family. Now it is time to share it with you. There is an old saying that is to remind us all about the treasures that only the mountains hold. It matters not what size home you live in when your backyard is the MOUNTAINS - THEY are the great equalizer.

We plastered the exterior walls of this 1950's home to give it the adobe look and feel that we love SO much about New Mexico's CHARM. You will not find skyscrapers or perfection here. You WILL find charming adorable adobe homes of all shapes and sizes. We have given this home that look in efforts to honor and embrace this beautiful culture we love so much and its rich history.

This home also has a tin roof that is simply magical when it rains! It embraces the rustic, simple life feel that we wanted to capture for our guests. It has an uncomplicated feel to it but warmth and comfort will surely embrace you. It has a large front porch and plenty of parking. The charm of this home has special little reminders throughout to of course allow you to enjoy and remember that you are in New Mexico along the stunning Enchanted Circle. There is something so inspiring and beautiful about this culture, it's beautiful lands and people.

You'll find that this home is close enough to explore and have all the adventuring you desire right at your finger tips with a quiet cozy place to retreat to. It is nestled in a very unique spot in the small, historic village of Questa, NM surrounded by unspoiled wilderness which is SO conveniently located both near to Red River and Taos. This house sits at the base of Eagle rock mountain, a truly stunning backyard view. In the coming summer we plan to build a deck on the back of the house to enjoy more of this mountain view. Until then, you can surely admire it through the darling little kitchen window while hand washing the dishes like in the older days we all long to feel close to somehow, someway. It invites us to have more gratitude for the modern conveniences where everyone gathers to help cook and clean after each meal - family time is what it is all about in this home.

The home is 1500 sq ft of just enough space with a wonderful layout for enjoying your family and being really comfortable together. It is equipped with wifi and all the basic needs. I think we need to visit smaller humble places to connect more with each other, have better genuine gratitude and to feel renewed.

This special little home has vaulted ceilings in the main family room making it a spacious yet an intimate place to gather and build a fire in the wood burning stove. It is an older home that we continue to upgrade and care for when and where we can. It is beautifully furnished and you will feel right at home. The interior walls are freshly painted throughout, It also has beautiful new floors.

In the main room there is a leather couch facing a Roku TV and two oversized leather chairs facing the wood burning stove. It is the perfect spot for reading in front of the crackling wood stove fire and getting cozy while your family ski's or for early morning coffee time. The house is decorated with a rustic flare, local art and a comfy mountain look with a large antique sleds and snowshoes to remind you that you are here to PLAY and make unforgettable memories together just as we have.

The dinning room is between the main family room and the kitchen. It has a delightful large rustic table purchased from the local village counsel with 6 mismatched wood chairs. It has a large easel for painting should you feel a deep source of creativity rise up as it always does for me when visiting here. That is just what New Mexico does to you. This room invites you to PLAY, talk and BE. It is a very sweet place to gather and share your meals.

The kitchen is newly updated with a double oven, small butcher block and butcher block counters. The backsplash is recovered amish tin roofing from an early 1900's building that we have repurposed as the backsplash. It has a small refrigerator and plenty of kitchen accessories for cooking yummy warm meals to enjoy together. The kitchen window faces eagle rock mountain. We left two original upper cabinets that frame the kitchen window as a reminder of the 1950's original home. Off to the side of the kitchen is the laundry room with a washer and dryer. We encourage you to use the clothes line in the summer months for a more primitive and wholesome experience.

The bathroom is small with a shower/bathtub, full length mirror, medicine cabinet, fresh clean towels, black makeup towels for makeup removal and charming bathroom sink with extra little wall baskets for storage and hairdryer.

The bedrooms are cozy and each have upgraded mattresses. There is one king size bed with a small closet and dresser in bedroom 1. There is a queen size bed with an armoire and a roku tv in bedroom 2. There is a full size bed with a small closet and dresser in bedroom 3 Each of the bedrooms are decorated with a flair of the west and thick Mexican blankets at the foot of each bed, bought locally to keep the vibe inside consistent with where you are vacationing.

This area provides some of the best outdoor recreation in the state and it invites you to SAVOR life, let go of the stress, work a little harder for your heat, be with nature, breathe deeply, rest and let go even if for just a few days. It is the perfect spot to enjoy ski season, snowshoeing, hiking, fishing, writing, creating, drawing, painting, reading and so much more. It is perfectly located between Red River, Taos Ski Valley, Taos, Taos Pueblo, Royal Gorge, Ojo Caliente (a spa you really should visit), 3 Rivers and Cabresto lake.

Eagle Rock Lake is a newly renovated lake that it is just minutes from the house where you will find locals fishing, walking and even painting in the summer months. It is also common to bump into herds of mountain sheep here! If you are a person who travels because you want an experience, a story, not just a snapshot then this place will not disappoint you.

A few life lessons we all can learn from New Mexico
1. Always take the long road home
2. Art is life
3. You can't take yourself too seriously
4. Culture is alive and well
5. It can be Christmas all year round
6. Sometimes its an uphill battle
7. History is what you make it
8. Manana is a state of mind - embrace it here

Beautiful place away from the business of town
The outside does not do justice for this home. Beautiful and spacious on the inside. We cooked almost every meal and had everything we needed. Loved that they had games! At times it did get warm but cooled off at night. We loved that this was away from the hustle and bustle of town. Perfect location.

A home away from home
Our family chose to ski Red River for a couple of days to ring in the new year. Because we are a big family I chose a VRBO so that we could each have a comfortable place to sleep and sit around a living room at night. This sweet home was a perfect stay for our family. Everything was super clean, the kitchen was stocked, we utilized the washing machine/dryer and once we learned about the hot water it worked perfectly. Just have to put the shower knob in the right location and let it warm up! This home was 11 miles from Red River, easy enough to eat dinner in town and come straight home or one morning we cooked breakfast, then packed lunches to take with us to the Mountain. I appreciated the owners back-and-forth with me on a few questions that I had. The only other thing I could say is it could have more comfortable pillows in the master bedroom. I'm kind of picky about my pillows! The place was so clean, very well decorated, very safe, and we felt right at home. Thank you to our hosts.

Wonderful home in a nice quiet town!
Looks are deceiving with this home! On the outside it doesn't look big but, the inside is very open and welcoming. Feels like a home away from home. All the little details that make a home welcoming were there plus so much more. The three bedrooms were wonderful, and the sink in the bathroom was awesome! My wife was a little skeptical about no AC but after coming to the area for years to visit family my reassurance that ac wasn't necessary and that this home would probably be cooler than ours back home in Iowa and whelp, I was right! Overall between the feel of this home and it's location did not disappoint at all! If you get the chance to stay here you will love it! Thanks again to the home owners for letting us stay, it will be a place I won't forget.

Bathroom was small and hot water never came on. As a single night resident, it would have been nice to have access to coffee in the morning. Last but not least, I would provide some chairs for outside seating. I might use again, but I thought the cleaning fee for one night was way to high

We had a very easy and enjoyable stay at this Vrbo. The pictures of the inside do not do it justice. The New Mexico decor was incredible and is in every room in the house. The house was very clean and had every amenity you would need for your stay. The mattress’s were high quality which is a big deal for us. The owners were very nice and accommodating. They were quick to answer questions and gave us some awesome suggestions on things to do in the area. They really went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone!
