With limited interaction with staff, the lady at the service counter seemed very nice. The issue we had was the fact that it was New Years Eve check in and we were not informed that the hot tub was not working , which was found out after we had already put our swim gear on and tested it, but also found out the HT has been out of commission for a few months, based on others reviews. The room itself is in quite need of updates and maintenance. The tub basin is rusting , the washroom lights flickered like a horror movie, and the carpet flooring is in need of replacement. It just seems that Sandman has lost it place as a nice hotel to now being a "just a basic hotel" that could be a hit and miss depending on location and upkeep.

We checked into the Sandman for a daughter and mother Christmas night and we picked sandman because of the great rates, pool and close to the mall. First thing was the pool and the hot tub didn’t work because it was cold and pool also was way below a normal pool temperature. We went back to our room to have a hot shower from freezing down in the pool and there was NO hot water. We tried for over 10 mins by running the water and not even luke warm water came. I called the front desk and they offered us to switch rooma but at that point we were completely settled and unpacked and didnt want to move our 2 young girls, but they offered a 10$ Denny’s gift card. I went to hotels.ca website and read another review from someone else with no hot water here from yesterday. I feel the hotel should have warned us about the issue because having the pool would have been great, and we would have booked elsewhere if we knew the boiler wasn’t working so no pool and hot tub for our girls. They then decided to dance around our bedroom to burn off energy and we got a noise complaint about that at 930 pm…. Overall terrible experience.

The hot tub was barely tepid water; and although the staff tried to be agreeable, minimal recompense was possible. Rooms with a soaker tub weren’t available and they didn’t have access to boiler/ thermostat to change the temperature…. It was quite disappointing.

I’ve stayed at this property a few times and have usually had a positive experience. This particular visit wasn’t the best, although not horrible. The floor’s ice machine was right up against the wall of my room (317), and a boarded up active construction area was also a few steps away. The ice machine could be quite noisy throughout the night and it woke me up multiple times, and daytime construction 10 feet away also isn’t ideal. The room itself was clean and bed was comfortable, although it seemed more dated than other rooms I’ve stayed in at this property. Whenever turning on any lights in the room, they always flickered dramatically for about 10 seconds before staying on - a bit jarring and could actually be dangerous for someone with epilepsy as it was so excessive. When I went to use the pool and hot tub, the hot tub was only warm-ish and there didn’t seem to be a way for guests to access / activate the jets. On the plus side, the staff here are absolutely lovely and the location is very convenient to a ton of stuff.
