With the exception of a few friendly staff, we found the people working here to be passive aggressive. The majority of the hostel is under construction and doesn’t offer the amenities listed on Hotels. I would consider other options than this. Pictures don’t match the current condition.
Everyone was very friendly and respectful, the place is cozy and welcoming, and it’s right next to the shoreline! The only downside is the noise of the renovation construction in the morning, but it’s not a bother if you’re getting up early to go out for excursions. Greatly enjoyed my stay.
First time staying at a hostel and this was clean, safe and respectful. I was aware they were under construction on the ground floor when booking, however visually upon arriving this was more extensive than I realised but it never disrupted my sleep. Convenient location and part of the hotel drop off options for airport bus transfers which was great.
Clean rooms and shower. Thomas was very helpful and accommodating. Unfortunately the property is under renovation so not much to do. Bed was very clean and comfortable.

When i originally booked my stay, i didnt know they were going to be doing renovations during that time frame. It was quite loud at times. The receptionist was excellent though. I forgot his name but the main guy that worked during the day gets 5 stars from me. He had reccomendations for excursions, food and was helpful with any issues that arrose.
The hostel was terrible. I met lovely people there, but that was the only good thing about the stay at that hostel. The bathrooms and washrooms are shared - which is terrible because it was dirty all the time; the kitchen was hardly cleaned and the surfaces were really sticky and dirty. The beds were very creaky, which disturbed all flatmates throughout the night. There was constant construction noise from downstairs. There was no proper hygiene and standards maintained; even the floors at the corridors and rooms were frequently just sticky.
I stayed at Kex Hostel for one day and it was amazing. I had to take a taxi very urgently to get to the airport, and the man at the front desk was very helpful! He explained my situation to the taxi driver so I was listed as a priority rider, and was able to get to the airport just in time. Would like to stay here next time when I visit Reykjavik :)
