A fantastic location and excellent food but....
A fantastic location. Staff were excellent and very helpful. Room was very well priced, somewhat dated though (decor, small TV, shower, etc) but clean, comfortable, complementary water/biscuits and a great view. Food was very good indeed, but heavily priced (e.g. £25.95 curry, £18.95 spaghetti Bolognese, £7.50 pint lager, £10.95 continental breakfast) - also watch out for the service charge when settling up. Breakfast good. Parking £7/night and right next to the hotel. There's no phone signal here and WiFi was absolutely shocking - intermittently available only in one corner of my room (sometimes), or more reliable in the bar/beer garden area. Overall I would definitely stay again for a relaxing break with great food and staff, but couldn't recommend this for a business stay if you need WiFi to complete your work - unless you're happy to sit in the bar and do it! Also lots of picturesque walks, canoeing and wildlife at this location.

Be aware
The stay was ok but the hotel charged me twice and couldn’t rectify the transaction I had to open a dispute through my credit card. If you haven’t got the time to chase them if they make the same mistake I would avoid this hotel

Lovely retreat
Lovely friendly hotel. The dining room was a lovely space with a log burner and you could take your dog. We had an afternoon tea, evening meal and breakfast. All excellent meals. Wine a bit pricey though. We had a double aspect room overlooking the Wye - view beautiful especially with the autumn colours. The walks were literally outside the front door and Symonds Yat rock was directly behind us. Rained a bit but the hotel was a cosy warm sanctuary from the elements. Staff were all very pleasant. Would definitely go again.

Disappointing
Great location but the hotel was very disappointing. Tiny room for a family of 3, despite the promotional photos suggesting otherwise. The beds are decades old and very uncomfortable. The room smelt musty and the anaglypta wallpaper is so out of date. Staff are uptight, and not very welcoming. Breakfast is not included in the price, and starts at £10.95 for a basic continental. Full cooked breakfast is an eye watering £15.95! Car parking is not included in the price, which was an extra £7 a night. At check out, I was overcharged for 8 breakfasts, and had to convince the employee that three of us stayed for two nights, making it only 6 breakfasts. This place could be great, but it isn't. If you're looking to book, head for The Old Ferrie Inn, just opposite on the West. Great service, friendly staff, delicious food and good prices.

The hotel is a bit old and in need of some modernization but this is reflected in the price. Otherwise, it is clean and maintained. The staff was very friendly and the location of course is a winner.

Shame
Some rocks hit the hotel from a cliff landslide and as a precautionary measure we had to evacuate. Fully understand but the alternative accommodation was a premier inn on the M50. Not quite the relaxing night in the Forest of Dean we were planning. So fed up we drove home in the morning. Would have expected more compensation from the hotel for kicking us out. Fully understand the situation, and they managed it really well, the hotel was perfectly fine just ruined the end of our holiday. Would have been nice for them to pay for our dinner or offered us another night in the hotel.

Friendly staff and beautiful location.
The location is great. It is right by the river. It has a lovely garden area overlooking the river. It’s also the very end property, so you don’t feel boxed in. You can do a 5 mile circular walk right from the front door. The last part is on the hand pulled ferry. The only real problem was the hardness of the mattress on the bed and the fact that there was no lift. You had to lug your baggage up to your room. I think they could to with a bell boy to help you. Overall we had a good stay, but it could be better with a few changes.
