"The Dugout" in the Bull Mountains...a quaint little getaway!

A unique earth home built into a hill on 4 1/2 acres with spectacular views of abundant wildlife ie. deer, elk, turkeys, etc! The property has just been completely remodeled and is just 4 miles from Roundup, MT with all it has to offer and is only 45 minutes north of Billings, MT and Logan International Airport. Great location for hunters as the property is just on the edge of the Bull Mountains and just a mile off the Musselshell River. Owners live in a log home on the opposite portion of the property and would be readily available to make sure you have everything you need for a comfortable stay and, possibly, a plate of cookies once in awhile! The kitchen is fully equipped with range, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, blender, electric mixer, toaster, crockpot and all dining utensils. A gas BBQ is also available. Each bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a queen sofa bed in the living room. A baby "Play & Pack" and a queen size air mattress is also available on request. There are abundant towels and bedding, but a washer and dryer is also on sight. WiFi, Direct TV, DVD Player, games, cards, and books, etc. are available for "indoor" entertainment.

Our little stay in the “Dug Out”
I thought that this stay was right on the money. We wanted something close to roundup but not in town. 4 miles from small town. Quiet, clean, well furnished. I would recommend for sure.

Peaceful spot
We enjoyed our stay and being able to cook meals and do laundry at this comfortable, nicely remodeled and decorated partially in-ground house. It was all quiet meadows and woods around us. It was a distance out-of-town and a dirt road at the end. Our GPS was wrong but the signs are address were helpful!

Peaceful Surroundings
We were happy to find this listing in an area where accommodations are few. The cabin was located in an area that was very quiet and peaceful. I awoke to the sound of the birds chirping outside and enjoyed watching the birds as I had my morning coffee on the bench outside. It was a great location for me and my husband, but the location is a bit remote. This might be something to keep in mind if you are traveling alone. Cabin was as described in the listing.

Great place
We came home for Christmas and this was a great place to stay. It was clean, quiet and easy to keep warm. Beds were comfortable and the living room was a great place to hang out and relax at night.

Couldn't Find It on a Moonless Night
Unfortunately, we never got to spend our two nights here. We had driven down from Glacier and it was dark by the time we reached the area. It was a moonless night and we could not find the mailbox or see the place (even though it was close to the road). Our GPS seemed to lead us to a "blank" section of the road. We had to move on to Billings to find a room at midnight, and we were unable to return the next day. Our host did the right thing. We got a full refund for our trouble. To me, that says a lot. It was unfortunate it turned out the way it did, but we recommend others stay here but arrive during daylight. From the pictures, it looks like an exceptional place.

Quiet and easy
We enjoyed our stay at the Dugout! Everything we needed was already there, so it was a super easy trip. Our only mistake was forgetting Roundup is a TINY town and we were there Easter Sunday, so ended up eating dinner at the gas station! It was memorable. :) If you need a quiet spot- this is for you!

AMAZING!!!
I have never started at a VRBO before. I will never stay at a HOTEL again. Our experience at the “Dugout” was incredible. We had a last minute date change and then wanted to extend our stay and Linda was so easy to work with and accommodating. We will definitely stay there again next year when we come hunting!!!

Roundup Cabin
We only stayed one night here but our time was enjoyable. Loved the design of the place and especially appreciated the porch! Loved sitting out there in the early morning hour and enjoying the surroundings of nature. We were a little surprised at the amount of traffic on the nearby gravel road. Just didn't expect it, not an issue though. We did enjoy seeing what looked to be an Amish family traveling on the road with their horse and wagon. One of our first sights was a little guy, presumably Amish, trotting down the road on his miniature horse/pony!! So cute!! The owner was super friendly and we were in contact via text. Super easy to check in and out, which we appreciated! She did come to welcome us and make sure we had all we needed. Would definitely stay again if in the area!

Montana Trip for Celebration
This property was in a beautiful setting with a great owner! Owner super friendly but not intrusive. We were surprised how much traffic went by, as it was off a road outside of town. A couple days were very noisy as owner had work that needed to get done, which was unfortunate.

Great location, host, and functionality
We loved the location, and all our interactions with Linda were fantastic. The place was spacious, quiet, and has been taken care of. It was particularly nice to let our children play around the property and enjoy walking down the country roads nearby. It was tremendously convenient to have the washer and dryer there, and a full kitchen + grill. Additionally, there were games about the house, and *lots* of options for bed (a port-a-crib, plus several hide-a-beds, which made taking care of our large (6 person) family easy! We did find some mice droppings in a couple of the drawers, and there seemed to be an odor (my wife thinks it was cigarette smoke?) that was hard to air out, even when leaving the windows open all day. The shower drained very slowly (much slower than water comes from the shower head), and the water seemed to have an orange-ish hue. These were all issues we worked around, but we feel that they could be addressed for future guests' increased satisfaction with the property.

Hidden Gem
Easy to find and super friendly owners! Quick to answer any questions I had and the Dugout was extremely clean and inviting! Went out for a family reunion and it was a home away from home - so much better than a hotel! I can see why it has such a high booking volume! Definitely recommend staying here - great experience overall.
