Sue and her Hmong family welcomed us into their home and really looked after us. Home cooked meals, breakfast and dinner each day, plus a bonus of a barbecue party, one day at lunch, which we were invited to. Only a handful of other guests from around the globe were amazing to interact with. If you’re looking for a truly cultural experience in Vietnam, I don’t think you’ll find one better than this thank you, Sue and your family.

This is a unique opportunity to experience local culture and traditions. Sue runs the most amazing homestay. The bedrooms are decorated with the most beautiful textiles and her breakfast and dinners are delicious and plentiful. We stayed in one of the smaller private rooms, which connects to the huge wooden upstairs loft and terraces, with two bathrooms. Recently renovated, the bathrooms are clean and practical, and we found the beds very comfortable. There are also private bungalows. If needed you can also arrange to buy lunch, as well as local trekking and the most fascinating and high quality batik and indigo class. Sue is a great teacher, a lovely host and a wonderful warm person. Unexpected luxuries were plentiful hot water, access to tea and coffee all day, and private terraces looking onto the rice fields. Small design details like hooks made from bamboo and really nice woven lampshades gave that special atmosphere. Sue looks after her guests like a mother hen, whilst also caring for her family and grandchildren with incredible positive energy. She’s always alert to give you what you may need. We spent 4 days gazing out onto the rice terrace, enjoying feasts with her family and learning batik/ indigo dye. We were able to purchase some lovely handmade textiles and the great reward is knowing that your tourist money goes directly into the hands of local ethnic minority people. Don’t hesitate. Stay at indigo snail for the experience of a lifetime.

Loved our stay at this proper Hmong homestay I had 2 wonderful nights of sleep with the mountain fresh air and sound of wildlife. There is a choice of two options at breakfast (i) noodle soup or (ii) pancakes. coffee and tea are also available.  We spent 1.5 days trekking with Sue - we arranged this upon our arrival. Water and lunch provided. The treks were varied, and the views were spectacular. Sue gave us an overview of local traditions, different tribes, celebrations and how things have evolved. We saw how traditional fabrics were made and colours chosen. We were also invited to join local celebrations with the community being warm and friendly to guests. Two Hmong ladies joined us along some of the trek and offered scarf options and other bits to buy.  The views at our lunch spots were amazing with one, a very local restaurant, looking onto rolling paddy fields with a variety of animals roaming. The lunches were flavourful with vegetarian option available. Sue organised everything perfectly - one example, we had a coach booked to take us to Hanoi at 2.30pm but wanted to maximise our day. She called the coach company to check travel details. We left our luggage at the homestay and went on a morning trek.Sue called the restaurant where we were due to have lunch ahead of time to place an order which was ready on our arrival. She had also organised a motorcycle to take us from the restaurant to meet a taxi who had our luggage and took us to the coach station in good time.
