About this property

Restored farmhouse, stunning views, very quiet and private. Pool. Wifi

Le Muret is a charmingly restored stone farmhouse with pool. Sleeps 10. Set in two acre grounds, it is totally secluded and has panoramic views over rolling countryside.

The house is set completely in the countryside and is magically quiet and tranquil. However, it is only 10 minutes drive from Cordes-sur-Ciel, voted in 2014 as the best village in France.

The house is in a perfect location for walking and visiting medieval bastide towns. Albi, 20 minutes drive, is a UNESCO world heritage site with a breathtaking cathedral and the Toulouse Lautrec museum.

Le Muret has been restored in traditional French style with spacious oak-beamed rooms.

3 Double bedrooms. 2 large attic rooms, one with double bed and a single bed, other with 5 ft futon and single bed. 2 folding beds (kids only!) Cot. 2 bathrooms (one en-suite). Separate WC on ground floor.

Large well-equipped kitchen/dining room with range cooker (6 ring hob, 2 ovens and a separate grill) and microwave. Hi-fi with huge CD collection.

Large living room with log burning stove. Digital satellite TV/radio, DVD + video. We have both the UK freeview channels and French TV. Further TV, DVD & video in attic. There are many DVDs at the house.

Indoor games room with table-tennis. Separate games box in the kitchen with many games and toys.

Laundry room with washer, drier, freezer. Shaded terrace for outdoor eating. BBQ. Badminton/boules/rounders. Selection of DVDs, videotapes, CDs, board games, jigsaws and hundreds of books. Wifi

In the house you will find a file full of leaflets from the nearby chateaux, museums and outdoor activities. There is full information regarding pony-trekking, donkey hire, carriage rides, canoeing/kayaking, painting courses, hire of bicycles etc. We have also put together a summary of this information, with the necessary phone numbers, to make it easier for guests to plan their time. Should you wish to make any arrangements before you come out, perhaps to enquire about painting courses or long-distance pony-trekking, taxis or bicycle hire, please let us know in good time and we will forward this summary to you.

July and August is the season for village fêtes. Every local town and village of any size has one or more fêtes. Expect sideshows, feasting, music, dancing and fireworks, which can often be seen from the garden. This is also the season of brocante fairs. Local markets are in every sense a feast, and St Antonin (which featured in the film 'Charlotte Gray') with its very large and very popular Sunday market is only thirty minutes away.

The countryside around is perfect for walking. We are close to several long distance GR footpaths including the GR des Gorges du Viaur and the GR 36 Gorges de l'Aveyron, Najac et Cordes. From the house we very much enjoy strolling along the little lanes, enjoying the views of Najac and Cordes and across to the Aveyron Gorges to the west. There is very little traffic on the lanes and such local drivers as you do meet are quite likely to offer you a lift! We have several books of local walks and maps for visitors' use, and have made a note of a few of our favourite walks, some on footpaths, some following the lanes. For those who like river swimming there is an excellent spot at Lagarde-Viaur, about 20 minutes from the house.

PLEASE NOTE: Le Muret is available all year. However, we do NOT open the pool until the beginning of May and close it by the end of September
All our bookings start and end on Saturdays except out of season. Please email us if you want a different start date

Delightful farmhouse in the Tarn area of France
Had a great wek in this quiet part of France with my family. The weather was as expected for late July so the swimming pool was appreciated by all of us and the stoop was used extensively at meal times where we sat outside amidst stunning views and talked late into the night.

A week away at Le Muret was just what we needed, comfortable renovated old farmhouse surrounded by a garden planted with fabulous selection of trees and a lovely pool, wonderful views, total tranquility, plenty of places to visit nearby, returned home batteries recharged wishing we had been able to stay for 2 weeks!

Perfect tranquility
We have been visiting France since the early sixties, staying in many houses as homeowners and holiday makers. Against that background we think this house and its environs are the perfect combination for rest and relaxation. The view, the facilities, the pool and the gardens are wonderful, and the house itself is tremendous. Characterful and well equipped. We love it, and so do two other generations of the Smith clan.

The house is a charming picture perfect old farmhouse complete with roses and honeysuckle adorning the building. There was plenty of space to accommodate our 3 generations of family. Sadly the weather was unseasonably cool so even with wet suits the children didn’t get as much enjoyment from the pool as we’d hoped. The water was freezing, The house was very well equipped but there were several annoyances that necessitated Tony (thank you,) to take phone calls and make several visits. It was 16 degrees inside as we arrived and damp and the heating that we’d been told not to touch took several attempts (and days) to get going. Thank goodness for the excellent wood burning stove. We has to dry out all the lounger mattresses and fill mouse holes in the games room. (The blighters had got into the basket trunk containing games!) The kettle had a faulty connection and the toaster only toasts one side. Several of the kitchen chairs had unintentional “removable” backs! We were asked to keep tumble dryer to a minimum and use the airer in the utility room or the outside line. There was no airer, so we rigged up makeshift lines! Such a shame that some tlc is required to what is otherwise the perfect peaceful holiday getaway, we shouldn’t really have to do DIY in holiday, hence not giving full marks

Lovely House in great location
House lovely although top floor accommodation you would have to be very good friends! House full of character but you can hear everything! Because of its age its very creaky. . As we are at the end of the season there was a lot of damage to kitchen ware and chairs etc and pool towels not provided. Great pool and pool area and wonderful views. Tony and Janine were very attentive when we lost power but unfortunately downstairs loo only fixed 12 days after our arrival. Otherwise great family home and would recommend for location, pool and views.

An Idyll
We have just spent another idyllic time in marvellous Le Muret - a wonderful old farm house, beautifully restored, set in the rolling landscapes of this beautiful part of France with superb views over the surrounding countryside. The swimming pool is ideal. And Le Muret is well located for lovely hamlets and towns as well as such interesting places as Albi and Rodez, with all their museums and places of interest. The food in the region is of course superb and there are many wonderful restaurants dotted around the area. This time we spent a month there and at the end we still wanted more.

Good for the soul 🙏🏻
Le Muret is an absolute gem. It really enables you to switch off & recharge. Breath taking View of the valley - incredible light - perfect for painting. A very special location. Great pool -perfect size. Indoor table tennis a hit with the kids also a good escape from the sun. Le Muret is very old, upstairs reflects this more than downstairs. Overall a comfortable home. We loved watching the Swallows & Swifts swoop over the pool taking a drink on the wing . The garden is a hive of activity with bees, butterflies & lizards. At night the bats are busy flitting about. It’s glorious!

Marvellous Le Muret
We had a wonderful time at Le Muret and will return. With its magnificent views over sweeping landscapes of valleys and hills in deepest rural France it constantly amazes. It's a wonderfully restored old and capacious farm house set in ample grounds and with countryside around guaranteeing complete peace. It is very comfortable with excellent modern facilities and a super swimming pool. Nearby are small villages and towns with good restaurants and places selling local products. The area is steeped in Cathar history and beautiful historic buildings. All in all it is much much more than a real treat.

Stunning setting but a few issues with the house
The farmhouse has been beautifully and sympathetically restored by the owner in a simple, rustic style. It is set within generous gardens and benefits from spectacular views. We stayed at the house for two weeks and had an enjoyable time exploring the surrounding area. You will not be disturbed if you stay here, the only sounds you can hear are the occasional bark from the neighbouring farmer's dogs. There is no traffic, or light pollution here, it is so peaceful. We unfortunately had a few issues with the house, which I feel should be mentioned before any other guests decide to stay. It generally was not very clean, we spent a considerable time cleaning when we arrived so that we would feel comfortable. Also, a lot of the lamps / lighting did not work, one of the bedrooms did not have any light, we had to use a torch. The owner explained there is a bit of a teething issue with management so I am sure this will all be resolved for the next guests. Overall it really was a very beautiful setting and stunning location but we will not be returning to the house. The owner kindly refunded our cleaning charge however upon check out tried to charge us for the pool hoover's wheel falling off! We did not touch the hoover as per the owner's instructions (despite it taking up half of the pool at times). Part of the wheel was missing which is why it wouldn't stay on and had nothing to do with being tampered with. This left such a bad feeling as we had already had a bad experience with the cleanliness and maintenance and we had taken great care to look after the house and even washed some of the sheets before we left! We did have a great stay despite the above issues, the location and setting are wonderful. I am very sure the house will be immaculate for the next guests, we were just unlucky I suppose. Also, the owner trying to grab our security deposit didn't leave us with a very nice feeling.

Beautiful house in secluded rural location
We stayed here for a week at the end of July. Comfortable, elegant house with the feel of a family home. Suited all four generations of our family from 83 year-old to 11 month-old. Great pool and grounds. Very well equipped. Housekeeper Janine very helpful. Short drive to shops/restaurants in Cordes Sur Ciel and 10 minute drive or 40 minute walk to excellent restaurant Lou Paidol in Salles. Highly recommend and plan to return

An idyllic home from home
Perched on, and somehow nestled in, a beautifully remote hill outside Cordes sur Ciel, Le Muret is everything a holiday house should be. Welcoming, comfortable, incredibly well-equipped. All was as billed, the bedrooms made up as requested, the kitchen spacious, clean and tidy. The welcoming bottle of wine on the table was a thoughtful extra touch. The weather while we were there was exceptionally hot, so much use was made of the fabulous pool and terrace areas. And the gardens gave one the impression of utter seclusion, even if Cordes is only 12 minutes’ drive away. Crucially, Le Muret has the feel of a real home, but one visitors can quickly make their own. We had a magical week.

A wonderful house in a great location
Le Muret is clearly a much loved home and the owners have carved out a paradise from the local sylvan environment. The views are breathtaking and there is much pleasure to be gained from watching the passage of French rural life over the rolling valleys. The house is very well kept and full of charming idiosyncrasies. As a group of six, including two toddlers and two grandparents, we found that the property was perfect for our needs. The generously sized house provided peace to those who needed it and gave the kids plenty of space to play. The children also loved the large garden, which contains lots of different little areas to explore. We stayed in early April and were happy to find a house suited to the changeable weather, which was sometimes chilly, sometimes glorious, consistently better than it would have been at home. It was quite surprising how much of the landscape we had to ourselves at this time of year and it proved a wonderful time to discover the lush greenery and ancient fabric of the region without having to share our time with thousands of others. We would be back in a heartbeat.

Environnement magnifique
