The village itself has a café, the fabulous Port Waterhouse, with pop up dining events and a bar open seasonally, along with being home to Salcombe paddle boarding, the village also boasts some fabulous sandy beaches along with direct access to the South West Coast Path- very scenic coastal walk or a mile along the Devon lanes takes you to The Gara Rock Hotel, serving delicious food with some of the best scenery a restaurant could provide, plus a spa and cinema room. The nearby village of South Pool also boasts a gastro pub, the Millbrook Inn. The bustling market town of Kingsbridge is a thirty minute drive away, with shops, pubs, eateries and a cinema and in the other direction along the picturesque coastal road is the historic Naval town of Dartmouth, again well serviced with amenities.

Salcombe is a historic fishing and sailing town that has become famous as a holiday destination because of its natural beauty and its local charm. Blessed with more beaches than you can visit in a week, a jaw-dropping estuary and magnificent walks along the South West Coast Path, it’s also filled with local traditions. For example, there’s the Town Regatta, excellent sailing opportunities and an ice cream factory. There is also the Salcombe Gin Distillery, which has a bar overlooking the water serving Gin cocktails as well as excellent coffees. You can’t leave without sampling the town’s unparalleled clotted cream fudge, visiting the magnificent bakery and restaurants such as The Crabshed and The Winking Prawn, which have practically become a rite of passage for visitors.

A few tweets!
On first arrival the cottage was lovely; a bit quirky but looked as if it would meet our needs. However, considering the cottage slept quite at least 8 adults there wasn’t enough seating in the TV room to accommodate that many. The TV did not have BBC channels so we couldn’t watch Strictly on the Saturday! A smart TV would be better as many people have subscriptions to streaming services. Also the TV in the big bedroom but want connect by aerial; there was an aerial but it was too short to reach the TV! There were no mirrors in the bedrooms so we didn’t have anything to do make up or dry hair! The mirror in the shower room upstairs didn’t work and the towel rail was cold! We found the switch on our last day!

Good location but need to be fit!
We enjoyed a lovely stay in the house with family of all ages. Plenty of bedroom/ bathroom space with a good sized garden and great location. The location is stunning, but need to be aware there are 138 steep steps to get to beaches ( which are fabulous ) and boat to Salcombe! Not a problem with the house but the beach cafe is currently closed and for sale… limiting amount of local places to eat on East Portlemouth side of estuary. Ferry is easy to get to Salcombe And water taxis also available to get back later in evening. The kitchen and dining in the house is tight for 8 people. More details would be great in property info… ie WiFi password and we took 2 days to work out how to make the downstairs shower not freezing cold! The bbq was on its side in garden and didn’t look very usable, also mentions fire pit in book, but we didn’t even see one. Great house, but maybe needs a bit more attention pre letting.
