excellent transportation options right outside the door. bus stop right at the hotel. trolley one block over. nice to have breakfast every morning hot and fresh. snacks on each floor not exactly fresh but nespresso machine nice. staff helpful. bathroom small.

The property had unique interiors and exteriors! Very eclectic and artsy. The free breakfast and complimentary cocktail at check-in were a really nice touch.

Overall I had a great stay and think the value for money I got was absolutely incredible! I love this property's design aesthetics - so beautiful both in the common areas and the room. Breakfast is nice to start off the day. There was a snack corner on the floor with snacks, coffee and water - this was great! All the employees I came in contact with were friendly. The only uncomfortable item for me was that I stayed at the room facing the inner courtyard and I think there is a taco restaurant kitchen right under my windows so when they were cooking, I could smell it a bit in my room. The windows at the hotels haven't really been renovated from the historical building this is, this is why the smell went through to the room - it wasn't disturbing me enough to ask for a room change though, but if you are very sensitive to smell, you might want to consider raising this when you are checking in. Also - there will be homeless in the area (its not just this hotel, more the area). There were not as many as in some other California locations I've been to and the hotel has a security/door monitoring person outside, but still something you need to keep in mind.

Boutique hotel in the heart of Gaslamp

Decor, comfort, Complimentary breakfast were great Building is dated with renovations & nice color schemes/staging. Very quaint & cute vibes. The doors slam if you don’t let them close gently & it was just generally noisy at times. Nice creature comforts from coffee/espresso & snacks on every floor to a nice blow dryer, steamer & stool in shower. Location was in a divey neighborhood & view from room was just okay. I loved the history behind the animal decor - the hotel was once a holding place for animals before they arrived at the San Diego zoo. 50/50 on whether I would stay alone again.

Very good but

A very nice boutique style hotel in the trendy gaslamp area. Many places for entertainment and dining. Be aware though, that there are many homeless people in the area that may cause some upset. The hotel staff are friendly and accomodating but do not seem to have the knowledge to help you navigate the city or recommend local attractions. Moreover there is a lack of basic tourist material available. The breakfast is very good and is provided in a friendly relaxing manner. The bedding is top notch. You will have a very comfortable sleep. The controls on the airconditioning are almost impossible to use. And forget about the televison. If you want current news you will not get it.

Great location right in downtown. Walkable to everything. Ambiance was nice and staff was super welcoming. Would definitely recommend. Their breakfast was quite decent as well. They have a collaboration with the parking garage across the street.

The free breakfast was very good- much better than many hotel free breakfasts. The fruit was fresh and there was a large selection of items to choose from. It is tricky to park and unload, especially if you arrive when 5th avenue is closed to cars. There is parking nearby though so we just rolled out luggage back a blockborb2. Staff were all very friendly and the welcome cocktail is a nice touch too. We enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again when we next come to San Diego.

Disappointed

The hotel is not a luxury hotel though advertised as such. No water bottle or coffee maker in room. No toilet roll dispenser. Dark gloomy hallway. Odd decor and the gaslamp area is not charming. Lots of homeless on the corner of 5th and Broadway. Has a run down look to the area. The staff were nice. The elevator broke for 1 1/days which was difficult for my husband who's 80 with COPD. Really not a luxury hotel as advertised and in a sketchy location.

The room was nice and clean. The staff was super friendly. The breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of variety. We were a 10 minute drive to the SD zoo which is why we were in SD.
