This was by far my favorite place to stay in all of Puerto Rico. If you want to be emerged in the rainforest but still stay in a clean room with all the amenities that feels like home this is where you should stay. It doesn't get any more beautiful or tranquil than this. The owner Joaquin has created such a special place and works so hard to keep it looking pristine to be able to share this hidden gem with as many people as he can. I feel blessed to have stayed there and to have met Joaquin as well.
Amazing experience. I’m so glad I picked this over a traditional hotel/resort. The property is breathe taking, the owner is super cool, and its close to the national rainforest. I will definitely request to stay here again next time in Puerto Rico.
One of the most beautiful properties I've ever stayed at. There are multiple areas to sit among the orchids and see the ocean and lights of San Juan from 1,000 feet high.
It is very peaceful. The host is amazing. I highly recommend this hotel.
Peaceful, clean, small hotel with a great view, beautifully landscaped grounds and very friendly owner who provided lots of interesting and helpful information about the area. We found it to be a great location for visiting El Yunque National Forest.
This place is a hidden paradise with incredible views of the island. Joaquin is a fantastic host with expansive knowledge and insider tips for sightseeing. Can’t wait to return!
El Pequeno Hotel was a magical place. The gardens resplendent with native trees and flowers, and hanging orchids, were enchanting. Joaquin was a lovely host. He made us feel so welcome and comfortable. The house and all its places - balconies, sunrooms - from which one could watch birds or sunsets with windows and doors wide open and warm breezes flowing through - was spacious. The pool was lovely and refreshing for a late afternoon swim after a day of exploring El Yunque. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, cutlery, dishes, and we felt perfectly at home making coffee in the morning or preparing a cheese board for dinner. We hope to return!
Really a very quiet place. The very beautiful spaces are accompanied by the beautiful view of the nature that surrounds it.
Everything is very clean and with spaces to connect and share as a couple or family. It met my expectations and I recommend it.
The Host Joaquín and his big dog Pepe were very friendly.
We hope to visit you soon.
Can’t say enough how beautiful this property was. The pictures don’t even come close! The pool was perfect, the gardens full of life and color, the views spectacular. Our host was absolutely delightful and I can only hope to stay here again on my next trip out! Super comfortable beds, lovely and clean rooms, all the details that have gone into making this place magical is over and beyond my expectations! Definitely stay. Rent the car and go!
Joaquin (owner) is a landscape architect, and the detailed gardens and structures are beautiful. He's a real nice and interesting host as well. Don't miss this gem!

Disliked: Staff & service
We could not find the hotel although we tried for more than an hour while driving up and down steep, narrow roads. There was no sign for El Pequeno Hotel and we also asked neighbors near the location shown on our digital map. One neighbor said it was the location marked with a sign that said Escondido Gardens Studios, but there was a locked gate leading to that property with no way for us to open it or contact anyone. Nobody answered our several calls to the hotel phone number. We tried three times to find the hotel on the very steep and twisting roads. The scenery was beautiful but our car overheated from climbing the hills. Our car recovered but we gave up after our third try that took us to the same spot. No hotel entrance or sign was visible near the location shown on our map, only residential homes and the Escondido Gardens sign and locked gate:( We spent three hours in the car while it rained on and off looking for other nearby hotels, but none were available because it was a holiday weekend. This was my worst reservation experience ever. Expedia has been understanding but the hotel still is invoicing me for one night. We would have gladly stayed for the two nights we booked if we could have found the hotel.
A unique and memorable stay! El Pequeño is surrounded by amazing gardens and has several different cozy sitting areas where you can take in the views, which extend all the way to the ocean. There is even a short trail into the woods where you can be surrounded by the sounds of birds and coquí. The host, Joaquín, is a friendly and interesting guy and is very knowledgeable, especially on the gardens that he created.
The room itself was small and functional, and very clean.
A great place to stay if you plan to visit El Yunque: just 30 minutes from El Portal visitor center, and about 25 minutes from the San Juan airport. Downtown Canóvanas is 10-15 minutes away for restaurants and shopping.
If you want to be among flowers there is no place like this.
Driving to and from the property is bit of challenge because of steep and narrow roads particularly in the dark.
Lovely stay. Joaquin, the host, was very friendly and helpful. Beautiful setting, lovely pool area and common areas. Feels off the beaten track in the best possible way.
