Our room the master suite was absolutely stunning. Particularly enjoyed the amazing balcony with stunning views and the very large bathroom with the rain shower and tub. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, my friend got severe food poisoning when we were out in San Pedro (recommend eating in Santa Cruz and San Marcos - don't eat in the backpacker town San Pedro). Even though it was evening and all the clinics in San Marcos were closed, one of the hotel staff member called one of their family members who was a physcian in town to open the clinic so my friend could get IV antiemetics and IV fluids. He also arrange transport to escort us there. I cannot thank the hotel staff enough for their assistance with helping my ill friend!! Would definitely stay again!!
The property is beautiful, just like the pictures with a great lakeside view of the volcanos. I stayed in a dome which was well decorated and very large, I particularly liked the deck with chairs to enjoy the view.
The downside:
- It’s very pricey! You’re basically paying for the view. Breakfast isn’t included in the price. Whilst it is beautiful, there are airbnb options nearby with similar views at a fraction of the cost.
- It’s very noisy. My room was next to the road that has karaoke bar. They played loud music until midnight. The hotel provides earplugs but they do nothing to help you get to sleep. This should be reflected in the prices the hotel is charging. A good night’s sleep is the minimum I would expect.
- Hot water is minimal. Both times I used the shower the water was cold. After letting it run for a few mins it was lukewarm at best. Again this should be reflected in the prices the hotel is charging.
Overall a decent stay for a couple of nights. The staff are friendly and it was a convenient location for the activities I wanted to do. The hotel should adjust its prices for a fairer reflection of the stay. At the current cost I would stay elsewhere if I visited the area again.
Amazing stay! The most beautiful views and property at the lake. The drinks and food were delicious! The staff was so helpful, accommodating asks super generous!

The hotel staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel is pretty overall. I appreciated the two pitchers of filtered water provided in our rooms daily for drinking and brushing our teeth. The bed was comfortable as well. Some drawers in the room would be very helpful as it felt like we couldn't really unpack. Unfortunately, absolutely no soundproofing was considered when the property was built, so getting sleep is difficult. Additionally, while I understand the lack of air conditioning, the king rooms dont have screens on the windows or balcony doors which would go a long way in allowing for a cooler and more comfortable stay. Opening the windows or balcony doors for more than a second or two isnt feasible unless you want a room full of bugs. The on site restaurant isn't bad but we were informed just the day before arriving that it would be closed on our final day there, meaning our plan to rest and lounge around was gone and we had to find other options for all meals and drinks that day. Would've been nice to know that earlier. The hot tub that was supposed to be on for 2 hrs per day wasn't functioning during our stay. While the views are beautiful, I wouldn't recommend this hotel as there are other options in other towns along the lake with better amenities, same views and an overall more relaxing experience.
i was super grateful to all staff as thet made welcoming so pleasant & easy. Very helpful in recommending & helping me with all my concerns. Only downfall is it is next to bar & music felt like i was there & we also had rain & water kept gettin in dome we stood at.
awesome boutique waterfront hotel with great restaurant, located right in unique san marcos and a very short walk from a beautiful nature preserve (swimming and cliff diving!), tons of eateries, laundrey services, yoga classes, massage parlors, activity providers (para gliding, atv trips, etc), etc. … HIGHLY recommend!
We really enjoyed our three day stay at Kula Maya. The dome tent that we were in was so beautiful and faced the pool and the water perfectly to see both sunrise and sunset. The views were breathtaking, the room was comfy, and had everything we needed for yoga, relaxing by the pool, and eating delicious food. The staff was helpful and reserved a private guide who took us to Chichicastenango for a day trip. We enjoyed the Tofu Bhan Mi , The breakfast and some of the nice bowls that were on the menu. Staff was very attentive. We did hear some noise from the area however there are earplugs in the room and it did not bother us.
I love this beautiful hotel. The views are amazing here but the FOOD 100000/10. Omg the best food I ate in Guatemala. The staff was so friendly and so kind. I can’t wait to go back.

Maybe wait until after construction to go
The property was beautiful . The room had a tree inside of it that the wall and ceiling was built around. Unfortunately it rained and the entire floor including parts of the bed, desk and carpet were completely soaked. The room also had a glass ceiling/skylight that opened to an atrium where construction was taking place. I was not able to use the room with any privacy because there were multiple people on the roof that could see directly to the bed area. The balcony was just above the outdoor dining area so again no privacy.
