Dumas Villas is not really a hotel. It is more of a boarding house, staying in spare rooms of a house with shared facilities. It is in a very seedy area where one would not feel safe venturing out.
However, what really marks this out as being a place to be avoided at all costs is the lack of honesty and the aggressive attitude of the owners/management together with the lack of cleanliness.
We had booked online in advance for a room at a fixed price. However, as soon as we arrived, before I had even given my name or booking reference the receptionist/manageress, said that that room which I had booked was not available and that we would have to pay a lot more for a room. She got very aggressive when I said that we were entitled to have a room at the agreed price and started making disparaging remarks that my wife and I clearly could not afford the increased charges. My wife asked whether she could be allowed into a room whilst the issue was being sorted out as she was ill, suffering from a stomach bug, which was true. The Manageress called her a liar for claiming to be ill. Only when I told the woman that I was a lawyer did she allow give us a key, to a room which smelled and was so filthy that we slept in our clothes on top of the bed.
Next morning another couple had agreed a price with the manager to run them to the airport. When we asked if we could share the car he demanded nearly double the price. The couple told us that their room also smelled and was dirty.
