Good location, less than 10 minute walk to the center of town. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Good breakfast with fresh bread. I took one cold shower before asking. Turns out hot is on the right. We paid in cash, but we were prepared by the previous comments and also e-mail communication ahead of time. Pool was closed but it would have been too cold to swim anyways. We appreciated using the kitchen. Also the housekeeper did a load of laundry for us for a reasonable tip. Nice terrace with a great view.

It could be nice if they put small frigos in the rooms, also if they have a diswasher to clean the dishes. Also the picture is too good for what it actually is in reality.

An oasis in the desert
I had a wonderful stay at Casa de Jose. It is literally an oasis in the middle of the desert. Staff are lovely and welcoming. They give you pancakes and fresh mango juice for breakfast. I felt safe and really at peace in this gem of a hotel.

Quite and calm stay on the edge of town
Lovely little place at the edge of town. The host was super friendly and helped us with advice on excursions to take and things to see around San Pedro. The room is a bit small, but otherwise can't fault this place

Nice hotel but there is no aiconditions inside rooms. When temperature outside is 35+ it’s very difficult to sleep. Hotel runs very nice couple. They are very friendly and helpful. As for staff I would not be so glad. Before our departure from hotel we could not wake up Grigorio(he is from staff). He could prepare a breakfast for us but he was to drunk to do that. So, we left hotel very hungry.

it was a little walk into town but nothing over the top. Very kind people working there. The room was small but clean and the breakfast was good. There is AC and hot water and a kitchen available.

Fantastic host!
Nice little hotel 15 mins walk to the centre of San Pedro. Angelica is a fantastic host and was very helpful in answering a lot of our questions about the area and what to do (including prior to our arrival). The hotel itself is comfortable with a nice pool area and good breakfast offered (or boxed lunch if you leave early). Drinking water available throughout the property. The rooms were comfortable, slightly on the small side. Wifi worked relatively well.

Very nice staff
The hostel is a little far from the square, like 15 min walk from everything. The hot water takes forever to come in the bathroom, so you have to be patient when taking a shower. Other than that everything was great! The staff is super nice and always trying to help and make sure you are enjoying your stay!

My husband and I went on a tour to Atacama with two friends and we stayed at de Jose for 5 nights. It was really really wonderful and the hospitality of the staffs made our entire trip a truly pleasant experience. We had nicely prepared breakfast everyday (the uncle in the hostel makes the best scrambled eggs in town!) Angelica is an amazing host and she gave us a lot of useful tips for the local tours and restaurants. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, with constant supply of hot water (doesn't feel like staying in a desert at all!). The little rooftop is actually a great place to do stargazing. We gonna miss everyone we met at de Jose and really hope we can revisit someday. Highly recommend for anyone going to Atacama.

Very helpful and friendly staff.
The room was clean, although small. The shower and hot water worked well. Angelica spoke enough English to help with everything including organising tours. Gregory made eggs for breakfast every morning. The view from the roof top was stunning. 15 min walk from the town center was not too bad. Friendly smile of all the staff made the stay very pleasant. I highly recommend the place.

Beware of 19% tax if using a credit card
Please be aware that the Casa de Jose can only charge your credit card in Chilean pesos, which means that you will have to pay the 19% VAT tax, even if you pay with a foreign credit card. Most other hotels/hostals will charge in U.S. dollars so that you do not need to pay the tax. If you pay in cash, they don't charge the tax. So this means that either you have to pay 19% more, or you have to travel with several hundred dollars in cash. Neither of which is an attractive option. Also, be aware that the hotel is a 10-15 minute walk to town. Since there are no taxis in town (though the hostal can call a car), this means that you will be walking back and forth on dirt roads in the heat or cold (depending on the season) to get into town for tours or dinner. You might want to stay somewhere closer, and with bigger rooms/bathrooms, as these as pretty small.
