One night stay
This was a one night stay whilst I attended an event on the Isle of Wight. The hotel is nicely situated on the sea front opposite the Pier. The meal times are a bit restrictive, but there are plenty of nearby alternatives to get something to eat. My room was clean and quiet and comfortable. There is a nice bar area. Overall I was pleased with the hotel and would stay there again

One and One Time
The first room I was allocated was at the rear of the hotel. The view was of the extraction system for the kitchen and rubbish bags. The room was very hot and there was a horrid smell in the bathroom. After complaining I was moved to a front room overlooking the sea. This room was better but I have never stayed in a hotel that has the gas meter in the room, I suppose I had something to read, The bathroom although better had the smallest sink I have every seen, how do you fill the kettle?? The towels had seen better days, off white and hard, the bath mat was whiter and softer. There were no pillow savers on the pillows and I expect no mattress saver, Miss Politzi would have a field day. The whole hotel needs a lot of money spent on it. I stay in 40 to 59 hotels a year, this is one of the worst. The staff very friendly and helpful, just the building needs a major over haul. The hotel web site says self parking, thee are pay and display car parks within walking distance at £7.00 for 24hrs, but the closet is popular with beach goers and the on street parking is limited to one hour. Never staying here again. There is a 19inch TV on the wall, the room warrants at least a 32inch.

Faded glory, but a nice enough stay
The location of the Royal Pier Hotel is excellent. As its photos and name imply, it's right by the pier and beach at the centre of the action. My room was comfortable and clean, if a bit dated. I had a glorious view of... the bins. Though I gather seaview rooms are available. I only spoke with a couple of staff members, but they were both helpful. The lounge and lobby areas are quite dated - the whole place feels quite 1950s - but well kept. In short, it's a hotel that's glory days are long behind it, but it appears the management are trying, and it's fair value for a short stay. There are plenty of better options on the island (and several better ones in Sandown itself - I'd personally recommend Inglewood Guest House, which is also available on Hotels.com), but if it suits your budget and needs it's a perfectly decent option.

Ideal for us.
We had a lovely 1 night stay for the IOW Festival. Had a family room which had plenty of room and everything we needed. Hotel is very dated but I don’t think that affects the stay and it was clean which is more important. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was basic but ideal for us. Great location, opposite the pier and just near High Street which had small Sainsbury’s and Tesco plus cafes and local shops. Was perfect for us.

Overall amazing stay at Royal Pier as always. However the following bits needs to be corrected. Fast Guest Wifi. Air conditioning or fan in the room would be more comfortable during warm weather.

Hotel was clean and comfortable with cheerful, helpful staff. The very good overall guest experience would be improved for us by the hotel abandoning the dated, basic, rather stingy, (so obviously) measured/portion-controlled breakfast menu in favour of a more open and generous one - even if it means a self-service regime. Surel to goodness, fruit juice AND (not OR) porridge, for example, ought should be available to all hotel guests in twenty-First century Britain!

Old world.... But fine. This hotel is two minutes walk from high street and on the beach front. Our room was comfortable. We did not eat breakfast. It was over early. Nice bar on site. Would stay again

Great location fantastic staff
This was our first ever family trip to the isle of white and have to say that the hotel was in a great location right on the seafront opposite the pier. It's an older hotel but with lots of charm. It meet all our family needs the room was great with sea views, the staff were extremly helpful and friendly. The added bonus of the indoor swimming pool was put to good use by me and my son who really enjoyed it. The breakfast was plentiful and served with some wonderfull charm. All in all this washopefully the first of many visits. Thanks to all the staff and management for making our short break an excellent one.

OK hotel
Single room above the pub below which had live music. So noisy I didn't sleep all night, luckily there was another room available and I was moved the following day. Room was the size of a cupboard, basic and cheap furnishing and the breakfast the worst I've experienced, try the porridge at your own risk. The hotel is directly opposite the beach so a wonderful location and it was clean in the rooms I stayed in and rest of hotel seemed ok. Didn't use the pool so can't comment.

Disappointing
We had a very warm welcome from the reception staff and all staff were very polite and friendly throughout our stay. Unfortunately the rest of the experience was a little disappointing. The room was very tired looking with peeling paint and the tiniest of showers/toilet in what I think used to be walk in wardrobe. (The shower floor also filled up within a couple of minutes and took ages to drain away.) The breakfast was cold and overcooked, and the menu was limited. The evening entertainment could be heard from our room (2nd floor) until around 11pm. It didnt bother us, but might be a consideration if you have children. There was no wifi access in our rooms (although I believe there was in public places). It wasn’t an expensive stay, and we weren’t in the hotel much anyway as we were out seeing the sights, however would probably stay somewhere else if we were going to return to the area.

Nice Staff, Nice Hotel, Awful room
The hotel and staff are really nice. The room was awful. 1980's chipped and worn furniture. The shower had hardly any power to it and you could not adjust the head. The worst part was the tired mattress which was covered in plastic under the bed sheet. This led to a terribly sweaty night of tossing and turning and possibly the worst nights sleep I've ever had in a hotel

Good value seaside hotel, mainly for older guests.
Hadn't visited the Island before and didn't know what to expect. Hotel seemed to specialism in provide good value stays for older travellers most who arrived by coach. We had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is pretty tired but that is reflected in the price structure. The 3 course evening meal reminded us of 1970's type fare but was again good value. Drinks pricing very fair. The Royal Pier is certainly good value but it couldn't be described as luxurious. We had rooms without any sort of view but some rooms do look out to sea. The staff were really good and seemed very efficient. We did find the amount of smoking immediately outside the hotel excessive and a little unpleasant but that is probably a generational thing as elderly folks do seem inclined to smoke far more than youngsters these days. We saw the singer one night, not really our thing but the older guests seemed to enjoy it. We travelled all over the Island during our stay. The road condition is shocking almost across the entire island. We perhaps should have made time to visit Osborne House but apart from that we saw most places.
