Extremely homey. Wonderful kind staff and beautiful spaces. Genuinely my favorite hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Leaving made me so sad, I wish I can come back.
Great little guesthouse in Otaru. Easy 20 minute flat walk from Otaru station, or a 10 minute walk up a slight hill from Miniami Otaru. Supermarket, convenience stores, and public bathhouse all within 10 minute walk from the hostel. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Bunk bed was comfortable and spacious. Toilet was a little small and ceiling was quite low in some places, but nothing far from the norm of a traditional Japanese household. Would definitely stay again.
This was one of the best places I've stayed. The people here are so nice and friendly and make you feel like you're part of their little family in the house. It almost feels like a homestay experience. One time I missed the last train so I returned the next morning and they were all worried about me. The place is very clean and has all the amenities you need. Highly recommended!

A cozy place
The hostel has "character" and I really liked it. I think a cup of tea in the morning would be great.
Small, cosy hostel with a cute Corgi named Hug. The staff of this hostel are lovely and the atmosphere is relaxing. Great place to stay if you want to explore Otaru
Really clean, warm, and cosy, family run hostel. Well located for sightseeing and eating in Otaru, and skiing at Tengu-yama. Home cooked breakfast optional extra. I recommend this hostel very highly and would love to stay there again!
There really are no words to explain my love for this place, but I will try. First of all, if you are someone that loves fancy hotel rooms and having everything pristine; this is sadly not the place for you and that really is a shame. This place feels like it inspired a Ghibli movie; not an imitation, but the source. It has been a few weeks since I left and just thinking about the place still warms my heart. There is a common area where you can sit under a kotatsu (table with a heater built into it and a blanket to trap the heat and sit under). They have games or manga you can use to pass the time, or you can simply relax and have great conversation. The floor boards squeak under your feet while walking to and from the bathroom and it really reminds me of the Nightingale floors in Japanese castles to deter ninjas stealthy entrances. The corgi and the cat are so well behaved and cute. I could go on and on about the things that I love about this place, but I am sadly running out of space with the word count. Bottom line: staying at this place is good for your soul. If you want to go somewhere that just warms you from the inside out, this is the place. I hope that at some point in my life I find my way back here again.
Morinoki is an amazing place. The staff is helpful, friendly, and they are carwdul to make sure your needs are met. The huse is beauitful and warm in the freezing snow of Otaru. I never felt cold or uncomfortabke once. Theee are books to read, movies to watch, and a kitxhen with everything you could think of. New guests nearly everyday made staying for a week a really fun experience!
